Jessie Dobbie Reactions

Announcement- Thank you so much for another marvelous reaction to a fantastic episode of Andor, Jessie!! I am so happy to see more reactions for this incredible show I love so much from you! Like I've said... This episode is fantastic! And brilliantly acted by Diego Luna, as well as Fiona Shaw (Maarva, Cassian's adopted mother), Genevieve O'Reilly (Mon Mothma), Stellan Skarsgard (Luthen), and Denise Gough (Dedra Meero). Each of them stand out to me within this episode for sure! First... My absolute favorite scene within this episode, is the second scene between Cassian and his adopted mother. I absolutely love, love, love this scene and moment!! Cassian does call her Ma every now and again because it is clear that he really does love her and sees her as his mother. Most likely never having known his birth mother, seeing how young he was in the flashbacks and living already on his own with the tribe of other young children. However, Cassian struggles to be close with anyone, despite us seeing that he does truly care about people. People like Maarva, B2, Clem (Cassian's adopted father), Bix, and Brasso (Cassian's closest friend). Cassian has lost so much in his life, and therefore he closes himself off to everyone, especially to those who cares about him enough to want to love him. And yet Maarva loves him most, and Cassian is able to open up the most to her. This scene between Cassian and Maarva is beautiful and heartbreaking. For a moment, you can see that Cassian wanted to tell Maarva that he was one of the rebels in the Aldhani heist. However, Cassian immediately changes his mind. However, I don't think it's because Cassian is either afraid that Maarva would be ashamed of him or even proud of him. Which I do believe if anything, she would be proud of him for taking a stand against the Empire, seeing as how she reveals to Cassian that these rebels have inspired her to want to fight back against the Empire as one of the rebels. I believe Cassian stops himself from telling Maarva the truth, because he doesn't believe in the rebellion. He absolutely hates the Empire. Cassian has lost his adopted father, his sister, his birth parents, his tribal family, as well as his former home where they all lived together before Maarva saved him from being killed as well. However, right now, Cassian believes the rebellion is a lost cause. He's lost so much to have any hope. But most importantly... I also believe that Cassian doesn't see himself as any kind of hero, in the way that Maarva would see him as if he were to tell her as well. Like we learn in the scene between Cassian and Bix, everyone on Ferrix is angry with him, and she tells Cassian that everyone would sooner turn him over to the Empire, than continue to help him any longer. And I believe that Cassian knows full well that he has hurt everyone he cares about. Despite him getting upset with Bix about why she and everyone blames him for the Empire sending in the ISB and stormtroopers to their home. So, Cassian stops himself from telling Maarva something good about himself, in order to keep her from seeing him as some kind of hero like she believes everyone involved in the Aldhani heist to be. And finally... I absolutely love, love, love the moment between Cassian and Maarva, as Maarva talks to Cassian about how much she loves him, and how she understands that he really does love her no matter how much he deeply struggles with showing it. And how she then pleads with Cassian to let his search for his sister go, out of fear of what he will sacrifice to try to find her, only for him to finally wind up becoming more broken than he already is upon discovering for himself that she truly his long dead like Maarva believes. Reminding us that the people within the Empire whom Maarva saved Cassian from when he was a child on his home world, had later killed everyone in his tribe and any other possible survivors within the mining colony to cover up the truth behind what really happened there, as has been revealed to us in the previous episodes. So beautiful, and heartbreaking. I love this moment between Cassian and Maarva, and B2 too. B2 is so cute!! He's one of my absolute favorite droids now within the entire Star Wars Universe, along with R2-D2. B2 has so much emotion and feeling in a droid, and I always feel so sad for him when he is there with Maarva and Cassian, listening to their heartbreaking conversation. Next... I absolutely agree with you in regards to how you feel towards Dedra Meero, Jessie. 100%. Dedra Meero is a character we are meant to hate, and who we love to hate because she is such a fantastic villain. She's definitely someone we feel we want to route for because she's such an intriguing character, and she's so good at her job. She is absolutely right in saying that the rebels' heist was meant as an announcement, because an announcement is exactly what Luthen intended for it to be, as we learn in his conversation with Mon Mothma, which I will come back to shortly... But Dedra Meero is most certainly a force to be reckoned with, and not someone to underestimate. She makes me think of mix between Maleficent and the Evil Queen in Once Upon a Time. Dedra Meero has the stone cold glare and coldness that Regina carries as the Evil Queen, and the same attitude and coolness that Maleficent carries. Which I find very interesting. As for the conversation between Luthen and Mon Mothma... I really appreciate this confrontation between these two leaders within the Rebellion. Both of them want the same thing, as they both want to see the Empire fall and they are willing to take a stand against the Empire as they work to build up the Rebellion. However, Mon Mothma is more afraid for the people who will most definitely suffer as the Rebellion grows struggle and begin to really fight back against the Empire. And she is angry with Luthen for setting up this heist because of how the Empire has responded to his announcement. The Empire has now cracked down on punishment, people are being unlawfully imprisoned just as Cassian has now been, and other problems will soon arise that are now a big problem for Mon Mothma. I feel as Mon Mothma feels regarding her fear for everyone who will now suffer further at the hands of the Empire, and yet I agree with Luthen. Because he's right in saying the Empire has been choking everyone within the galaxy so slowly, that everyone has begun not to even notice. Because so far, not enough people have risen up to fight back against the Empire yet. People are still far too afraid, and most simply choose to remain in their ignorant bliss as to what the Empire is really doing, in order to avoid being punished and killed. People like Mon Mothma's husband and daughter. Brilliant conversation!! My final favorite scenes is the one between Mon Mothma and her childhood friend, Tay Kolma at the get together in her home. First... Mon Mothma looks absolutely gorgeous, and her gown is so beautiful. She always looks so elegant. But most importantly... I absolutely love how she carefully words her plea for help from him to Tay, and then reveals to him who she truly is, then turns around and uses his own words to help him understand how serious she is about what they are about to conspire in together. "Or perhaps you find my politics a little strong for your liking." And while we aren't given any kind of confirmation that we can trust in Tay, I do believe we can trust him. Because Tay is the first one of them to talk about his distaste and anger towards the Empire, and that his politics (This may not be the right word) may be too strong for her liking. I know that Mon Mothma knows she's being spied on, as she tells Tay she has discovered. However, Tay had no reason to suspect that she is aware of how much the Emperor and those high up in power distrust her. He had no reason to bring up his own disliking of the Empire. Yet he is the first. Plus... Not only is he her closest childhood friend, but Mon Mothma is also very smart and a good judge of character. She would never take this risk with Tay, if she didn't completely trust him. And I do believe that his words he speaks to her reveal who he truly is as a person and that he can be trusted. Unfortunately, thanks to the Empire cracking down on punishments for even the smallest of crimes, Cassian has now been captured and imprisoned for doing absolutely nothing. These are not flashbacks. This is happening in the present time. Just because he was caught in the wrong place, at the wrong time. And he's received six years in prison, just because he was suspected and accused of being one of the men involved with whatever was happening on the beach planet. Not good. And lastly... I love, love, love the brief flashback moments we do get within this episode. as we see Cassian remember back to when his adopted father had been killed and hung in the square on Rix Road, upon seeing the stormtroopers in the distance and hearing their march. You can see how much Cassian really loved his adopted father, as we see how the sounds of the troopers' marches trigger these painful memories for him. And we also see a younger Cassian later go to attack the soldiers out of anger and vengeance, which is most likely the reason why Cassian had been imprisoned back when he was thirteen years old like he had talked to Luthen about. And yes... Cassian uses his adopted father's name during his time on Aldhani, because Clem clearly meant so much to him. And in these flashbacks, we see that Clem was tragically killed and then hung for throwing stones at the stormtroopers, when he was actually trying to stop the other men throwing the stones. Again, he too happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and it got him killed. For doing the right thing. So, so sad. Also... I love the cinematography and flashes back and forth between past and present day, and seeing Cassian as well as his younger self within the flashes between past and present. Absolutely marvelous!! Thank you so much once more for this fantastic reaction, Jessie! I really appreciate you continuing to watch all of Andor for me. :) Sincerely, Heidi
