Bonus Video: Wings - An assessment of every band lineup

Hello Patrons!

Well, the topic that's come second in every poll since October of last year has finally been selected as the top choice this month! Congrats to all involved.

This was fun for me! Made me want to re-do my McCartney Album ranking video haha.
Let me know your favourite lineup/band iteration in the comments to this post.

Hope you've all had a fab start to the new year,

E.

Laurence Juber was not particularly important to Wings, but I’ve seen him live at the Grammy museum 4 times playing as a part of a band covering full Beatles album and he does great finger style versions of Beatles songs. His Spotify has full albums of his finger style Beatles covers that are really great, especially Rain

Just around why Jimmy left...as it turns out from McCartney Legacy Vol 2, he was fired! The book claims that Jimmy got steaming drunk and basically destroyed the kitchen in one of Paul's High Farm cottages. Paul told Jimmy to get his things and leave and if he ever came back Paul would "kill him."

Andrew Galvin

I pretty much don’t know anything about Wings, so this was fascinating!

Excellent assessment of Wings, and I had to laugh out loud when you mentioned the strangely similar names of the revolving band members, it is kind of Spinal-Tap-ian! 😄

David Beckey

I love that album, all of the first side, and most of the second! #backwardstraveller

David Beckey

No I love it too. Café on the Left Bank is a banger. And Deliver Your Children is great.

Wow, I wasn't aware there were so many different line ups. I like Wings but haven't delved too much into the personalitiee involved. I'm pretty sure Paul is not the easiest person to work with but as you say, why would you leave a Beatle?! I e also had that thought about all the similar names - weird.

Lou Watson

Am I the only one that likes London Town by Wings ❓

From what I have read, it seems that the reason for the exodus prior to Lagos is the lack of a signed contract and low pay. Denny has said that everything was based on a handshake; he could make much more as a session man in NYC and that he had a family to support. I think Paul was pretty dubious of contracts and was cash poor given ongoing legal battles with the Beatles so he wanted little to do with the business of music. Also, the lamb dragonfly shenanigans did not help. Dont think those 2 rockers were psyched about playing kids music. So add to that a trip to Africa and these guys, who were making vey little money and embarrassing themselves on tv, were done.

“I don’t think they would have won over crowds this big with these two jokers!” Elliot’s out here saying what we’re all thinking lol

Great research and overall summary on the different eras of Wings and the revolving door of band members! I am a casual listener to wings and hardcore Beatles fan! Your videos help me learn a lot I’m new to your Patreon and happy to have joined Thanks again!

If you do go forward w/ an update to the McCartney rankings, you could call it Maccanendments.

Bennett Billard

So excited that the Wings topic finally won - but also sad that now the running joke is dead 😂

Gaby G

Congratulations! Excellent topic :D

I’m sooo happy that mine finally won :)

I'm half way through listening to the McCartney Legacy Vol 2 audio book, which I can highly recommend! Vol 1 spans 69-73, Vol 2 74-80, so all of the Wings years. Both volumes are read by the same guy and he does a really great job!

Neil Williamson

For me Jimmy McCulloch as guitarist and Steve Holley on drums would be the perfect combo. Loved the video!
