Bonus Video: Paul McCartney & Wings 'One Hand Clapping' - Review

Hey everybody,

I hope you will all enjoy June's bonus video which is a deep-dive into the new release by Paul McCartney and Wings One Hand Clapping.
When I say 'new' I mean it's actually a 50-year-old live album but was only just officially released for the first time this month.

I worked pretty hard on this one and fully consider the quality of this to be up to the standard of my YouTube videos.

I hope you dig it!

E.

Wow, I guess I'm out of the loop, I had no idea this was getting a release. I'm over the moon that All Of You has finally had an official release. Thanks again for a great vid!

Take Geoff Emerick's "Here, There and Everywhere" as a source with a pinch of salt. It's notoriously badly ghostwritten with an incredible about of factual errors, and even anecdotes from other recording engineers attributed to Emerick for sessions he wasn't even present at. His description of the recording of A Day in the Life is just full of lies, and the same with elements of the Band on the Run album - especially a deliberate creative choice he attributes to an impossible accident on Let Me Roll It. Otherwise, excellent video, I very much enjoyed it. Currently working my way through your previous bonus videos too!

I also have a theory that β€œLove My Baby” is an early version of β€œShe’s My Baby” because of their similar lyrics and melody. Not sure though!

Not included was also Sitting at The Piano and Great Day after β€œI’m Gonna Love You Too” which are both incredible gems as well!!

You’re quite correct, Amanda. I was referring more to his standing with the critics and the press where his albums weren’t meeting the kind of acclaim that, say John and George had been receiving. But yes, he was still getting a lot of airplay and people were still buying his music in droves.

I’m currently doing my own McCartney listen through of all his post-Beatles stuff. I’d never listened through the entire Wings catalog, but dug it much more than I anticipated. I really enjoyed Wild Life & Tomorrow has been my favorite Wings song for a while. This bluesy version is just great. Beach Boys documentary next?

another great and entertaining video, elliot. my only quibble would be in your description of band on the run marking paul’s entry into chart success. in america, the first album, mccartney, went to number one. ram only went to number two, but uncle albert/admiral halsey was a number one. then my love went number one as well. but that aside, great fun was had viewing as usual. thanks!
