Full Of It #308 - The Conjuring

Kicking off the first of our spooky pods, we're taking a dive into The Conjuring universe. Beginning with the original film released in 2013, the franchise has since spawned two sequels with a third on the way. There are also spin-offs that focus on the malevolent spirits that feature in the main pictures, namely Annabelle and Valak. The characters at the centre of the films are real-life supernatural investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren - but was any of it genuine or was it all, as one skeptic wrote, "blarney".

If you have a spooky ghost story that you haven't yet submitted to Absolute Agony, feel free to submit it to novympia@gmail.com with the subject as 'Absolute Agony Spooky Story' - I'll be discussing some of them for the final Halloween Full Of It pod!

Iv listend to them all now im starting them all again. Especially love the spooky murderous ones. Sorry for any spelling mistakes (iv had a drink with lunch). Looking foward to all the spooky season goodness and thank you for all the joy you bring me. Much love x

I've been a patron now for about a year and you've been in my ear oles for almost every day of that year. I subbed years ago on YouTube but my biggest regret is not coming to see you guys when you were in Dundee. I wouldn't blame you if you never came back but do you think you will do a tour again in the future? Also I cannot tell you how fucking excited I am for the WWE episode and can't wait to see the extended Novympia universe throwing each other over the top rope. I've been trying to guess who is going to appear. *Jim Ross voice* 'OH MY GOD Barrie the Boiler has entered the ring and chokeslammed Dita!' Can you tell I've been listening to the old pods πŸ˜‚

Total ly obsessed by anything spooky and paranormal. At one time was considering doing a paranormal/hauntings podcast with a friend but there are so many great ones already. Following lots of looking into them I am pretty much convinced they were great performers but not very good investigators. You have reminded though that I wrote an episode of for a fictional court case comedy improv show for a friend where Annabelle has taken Ed and Lorraine Warren to court to sue them for false imprisonment. We must get that filmed and edited in time for the Halloween edition!

Heya doll! Long time listener but I’ve not commented on a pod in a while! This was just what I needed to settle into spooky season! I remember going to a film premiere in London for the conjuring 2 with a guy who years later is now an occasional Fox News guest in the states (yikes I know!) also completely unrelated but a week ago me and my friend climbed up mount Olympus on holiday and I got to enjoy the stumped look on his face when I turned and said β€œdoes anybody care that we’re at the highest point in Greece!” Keep being amazing!!!

I loved the first two Conjuring movies but agree with you when it comes to the third. Something about it feels really different to the first two. The biggest gripe I have with it is they made Lorraine into a superhero with her clairvoyance. Yes, she's always been able to see things, but in Devil Made Me Do It film she's doing laps around this property "in her head" and interacting with multiple things in the real world while she's in that state. It feels like they needed to escalate from the last movie and chose to do so by making her the Catholic version of a witch.

Love the conjuring movies! This has inspired me to do a rewatch.. of the first two. Also my favourite part of the pod was when you called him Patrick Stewart when talking about the nun painting … would have a very different vibe if he was cast as Ed!

Nick Holmes

I second the substance rec

Big Witch Energy

Like you, I save my favourite horror films for the month of October. Amityville horror, Silent hill, the Blair witch project & sinister being some of the top of my list. I wouldn’t say I have a very favourite as I find it depends on my mood. So happy that my suggestion on absolute agony will also feature on FOI, and yes I have submitted my own story 😁

Smurphy

So I read that the Nun aspect was added in additional shooting for the sequel. It was originally only the old man but Wan felt the movie needed more so they added that in. The studio didn’t mind because they saw it as a great spinoff idea.

I take umbridge with movies calling themselves "the scariest movie ever", like longlegs, it wasn't scary at all, maybe I'm just desensitised. I remember seeing the conjuring 2 in cinemas and picking up the name "valak" hidden in the Warren's house and bookshelf, and being so smug when it turns out that was the demons name, none of my friends believed me. Apparently they were going to make a crooked man movie too, but I think it got scraped

Hiya Lymp you fabulous doll, this has absolutely no relevance to anything discussed, but I was re-watching your self isolation vacation video and absolutely pissing myself. All the way through the thought in the back of my mind was Jesus Christ how on earth did you manage to edit this? and then I got thinking, how on earth do you edit? and was wondering if you would ever do a little series, maybe Patreon exclusive, just showing little bits of editing and how you do it so fabulously. You are incredible and I thoroughly look forward to new episodes of the pod each week, especially the true crime ones, your dulcet tones always make for a great listen

Random question: how much did your course cover Horror as a genre while at uni? I've never heard of anyone actually being taught the theory of horror media but I went to uni an embarrassingly long time ago and the genre wasn't given much respect.

Also I gasped out loud when you said you knew Psychic Sally’s manager. My mum was obsessed with her and then went to see her live and said it was one of the most boring experiences of her life πŸ˜‚ nothing happened apparently. Just lots of false starts and awkward silences.

Mark Hall

Have you two seen The Substance? Saw it last night and the best way I can think to describe it is Showgirls meets The Thing. Disgustingly ludicrous, I had a blast.

Mark Hall

That 2nd Silent Hill was deplorable! You're correct and I will die on that hill <3

SLinca

What an excellent birthday present ya gal is back and it's on horror. This film was the first horror to make me scream out loud. I've always loved horror but this and insidious and such is when we started to get actually scary I thought. Wishing Nova a speedy recovery and a purple heart to you for your nursing services x

Richard Prendiville

Growing up I absolutely hated horror movies, but I randomly really wanted to see it when it came out so I went with my mother... I was absolutely terrified and had to sleep in her bed lol it holds such a place in my heart as it helped started my obsessed with horror movies x my fave horror movie to return too at Halloween is silent hill, it's now probably my favourite film which is hilarious as it's sequel is the worst movie I've ever seen( and Ive watched like horrible low budget zombie movie in existence) it's the only film I've turned off halfway through as it was so gawd awful. Still think Kit Harrington is a shite actor, I'll never forgive him for that movie

Morgan Nyhan

The Conjuring is one of those franchises that while not always consistent never fails to scare and scar me. I find the Warrens to be fascinating and credible, which makes the stories even more terrifying. Please share your Moira Rose pics on IG! Hard to top Mrs. Peacock, but you got this! Hugs to Nova - hope she kicks her sick soon. πŸ–€πŸ©·

Scary Clarey

I have a very spooky story about this film and the day that I saw it 11 years ago or whenever it came out πŸ‘€ would love to share. Can’t wait to listen in the morning hope you are all ok my darlings. Have lovely weekends x

Joe Murphy

I love this podcast so much. 😭 I can’t believe it took me so long to sub to y’all’s Patreon. I’ve been super into the episodes about mysterious deaths. I hope that for the month of October we’ll be blessed with more episode like that. Would love to hear your opinion about the missing 411 phenomena!!
