Remember when they were learning Nen and they were told words can give you power. Thats what Kurapika did to make his chains so strong, and the harsher the conditions on thr contract (cant get any more harsh than losing your life right?) the stronger the power becomes. So when you weer saying how strong has Kurapika gotten that his stronger Kurta members were killed and couldnt beat them but he thinks he can, its not that Kurapika got strong its just that he basically used his Nen as a "cheat code". But remember if he uses it on anyone whos not a Spider he'll die, so the stupulation is that cheat code/super boost ONLY is useful on the phantom troupe. Meaning if he fought anyone ELSE on the phantom troupe's level (like Killua's parents) or higher, theyd kill him just as quick and easy as Uvo was killing those mafia members and shadow beasts. So its not that he got stronger, he just specialized his NEN specifically for one task and one task only.
