PSYCHO (1960) - Full Length Reaction!

Here's the full length reaction to Psycho! The scare level of this one didn't kill me, but BOY did it creep me out! Enjoy!

PSYCHO (1960) - Full Length Reaction!

I feel as though this and "12 Angry Men" (and maybe also "Casablanca" -- and "It's a Wonderful Life," thanks mostly to its Christmastime setting) are probably the most reacted-to pre-'70s movies on YT.

I'd argue that "The Birds" is scarier than this one, but, yes, otherwise he was mostly in the business of suspenseful dramas... though he was a bit too fixated on the premise of the main protagonist being wrongfully accused of a crime and then having to clear his name.

Great reaction, Addie! "Just that waiting is literally what kills me" Nice pun. Very appropriate. And ditto. Some people think that the creepy transition between Norman's face and the car being pulled out of the water at the end of the movie makes his face look like a skull, or you can see a skull for a second within his face. Anyway, I'm glad you're appreciating the brilliant awesomeness that was, and is, Alfred Hitchcock! I hope you feel similarly about my creepy work this month. Looking forward to seeing what you have to say about it. I was having fun watching your reactions as the tension was building in the film, but I felt bad for you because you were so on edge and to see a sweet person like you feeling scared. At least your almost halfway thru the month. Stay safe today on the 13th, not that I'm superstitious but I do have OCD. :)

I have three fun facts about Psycho. First… they tried multiple red mixes for the blood in the shower scene but they didn’t look right filming in black and white. The final solution was chocolate syrup and it gave the best appearance as blood. Second… Psycho is the first movie to feature a woman in a bra. Scandalous! Third… the walkway from the motel to the house is fondly known as the “Psychopath” Is he going to stuff her body or something? Quite the imagination you have, Addie. Another classic movie checked off.

If you delve further into Hitchcock, this is as scary as he gets. His movies are mostly suspense/drama-- and good ones. I recommend checking out more of his work for the channel. You would stand to attract more subscribers, I think. Janet Leigh (she played the lady in the shower) is Jamie Lee Curtis' mom. Like mom like daughter, getting attacked by a killer with a knife. If you wanted to see them both in a horror movie together (because I know you're dying to) that would be John Carpenter's "The Fog" (1980). It's the feature he made after "Halloween" and it's pretty good, though hardly ever gets a reaction. Carpenter also directed "The Thing", which is currently the close runner up on your latest poll. Looks like you’re destined to be his number one fan. 😁🎃👻

Happy Friday, Addie! 😊 This is a great movie for the spooky season. A classic! Definitely looking forward to watching this reaction later this evening. Have a great day today & a great weekend! 😊

The Crimson Vixen watching Psycho (one of my favorite classic movies) is akin to asking your crush out on a date and her saying yes. It really is that same feeling of exhilaration. 🤣

Yeah, it's pretty tame by today's standards... even though all the blood in it is largely what caused it to be filmed in black & white at the time. That said, I still think it's Hitchcock's second most overrated film (after "Vertigo"); some parts still just don't work for me, such as the way Arbogast's death was shot (did he just fall all the way down the stairs on his heels? And was his peripheral vision that bad that he didn't see Bates coming toward him? 🤷‍♂) and the overly contrived attempted explanation for Bates' actions at the end. I hope you'll check out more Alfred Hitchcock further down the road (kudos for including my favorite film of his - "The Birds" - in your poll yesterday).

Speaking of Alfred Hitchcock, I also suggest Saboteur (1942), Shadow of a Doubt (1943), Rope (1948), Rear Window (1954), To Catch a Thief (1955), The Trouble With Harry (1955), The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956), Vertigo (1958), North By Northwest (1959), The Birds (1963), Marnie (1964), Torn Curtain (1966), Topaz (1969), Frenzy (1972), and Family Plot (1976). #MoreAlfredHitchcockForAddieCounts

Let's give Addie a round of applause for surviving Psycho (1960). 👏👏 Happy Friday the 13th. This is my all-time favorite Alfred Hitchcock movie that I would watch from start to finish. I own the movie on a new remastered Blu-ray that also includes an uncut version that originally played in theaters back in 1960. I've always gone back to that version because it adds back a shot from the shower undressing scene, a lingering close up of bloody hands, and additional thrusts of the knife for the killing of Arbogast inside the house. The movie itself was edited for content in 1968 when the MPA ratings system was first established (the movie initially went in without a rating in 1960 due to no such system existing yet) to obtain an R rating.
