Happy first Monday of the new year! Here's the full length reaction to Star Trek Into Darkness. I loved Benedict Cumberbatch so much in this one! Enjoy!

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS (2013) - Full Length Reaction!

Comments

Yes. Ricardo Montalban is Khan. End of story

If you want to find out what Older Spock told Younger Spock, Watch Star Trek TOS Season 1 Episode 22 "Space Seed", then watch Star Trek 2 The Wrath of Khan (1982). (Star Trek The Motion Picture (1979) is a 2h15m movie that spends an hour and a half on pretty visuals that do nothing to help tell the story.)

Benedict Cumberbatch is a spectacular villain!! He was outstanding here!

Billy Dancel

Ahh! This one is so good!

The funniest thing is how Abrams vehemently denied that Cumberbatch's character was in fact Khan right up to its release. The guy is obsessed with shallow fan service. He'd be far more effective as a strictly for-hire director, à la Richard Donner or Irvin Kershner. He's just too much of a derivative hack when it comes to story assembly.

Wrath of Khan is one of my favorite movies of all time. Giving it the JJ treatment fell flat at best. So many stories to do in a rebooted Trek universe and they just couldn't help themselves. I'm a fan of the first JJ Trek, thought it had a clever twist to soft-reboot the franchise. Hated the direction they took with this one. The story doesn't work without the history and relationships between all the characters. In the new version it's Kirk and Spock just getting to know each other with a baddie-of-the-week thrown in.

Ya know not including Star Seed. 🤷‍♂️

I so want you to watch ST 2 Wrath of Kahn. It’s where it all began. 🍻

RP

Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan would be a good watch, just because it exists so much in dialogue with this one. Into Darkness is basically a retconned version of that encounter with Khan, with some key reversals that really provide insight into the Kirk-Spock relationship as defined by the previous movies.

Also heads up Addie. The original Spock (Leonard Nimoy) does pass away in real life before the 3rd movie so you wont see him there. When you watch it and be like "why is he not here." I URGE you to watch some of the original movies just to see some of the legacy he helped build for himself and his career.

Best start to the new year for me! Can't wait for when Addie gets around to Star Trek Beyond - nothing brings my mood up more than Star Trek.

Abbie Sharp

You need to watch the old 1981 Star Trek II - Wrath of Kahn you may understand more of what "into Darkness" was all about

Aaron Taft

Absolutely !!! 2009 Robert Downy Jr.? or Benedict Cumberbatch series?

Aaron Taft

Love it!!! Can't wait for you to watch the original movies! You will get it when you watch them. Star Trek 2 The Wrath of Khan is the best one imo

Jayson Phillips

Happy new year! Anyone up for some Sherlock this year?

Ah, Into Darkness. Rather enjoyed the first half of when I saw it in the cinema - not so much the second half. Perhaps if JJ hadn't persisted with the "it's definitely not Khan (OK it's Khan)" thing I'd be a bit more positive about it, though there's still quite a few other things about it I don't particularly like. Don't want to get too much into it to prevent spoilers

Happy Monday, Addie! 😊 Glad that you're continuing on with the Chris Pine "Star Trek" movies. This one I've only seen bits and pieces of. But I do remember Benedict Cumbrbatch in it. Definitely looking forward to watching this reaction later this evening. Have a great day today! 😊

Randee Carreno

Yes! I love seeing Eggs Bennadict cucumberback in movies! He plays an amazing villain.

Happy Monday, Addie. As an IMAX fan, Star Trek: Into Darkness is my favorite of the two J.J. Abrams Star Trek movies. I even enjoyed seeing the prologue ahead of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012) in IMAX 3D HFR, on Christmas Day 2012. Live long and prosper. 🖖🖖
