since i am a trek fan, i can't really say for sure how a non fan would feel. i think the movie works as a comedy in any case, but there are quite a few things fans can appreciate a bit more deeply. that said, not everyone has to have the same experience to the media they watch. experiencing things we enjoy from a new perspective is one of the main reasons we're all here, i suspect.

LOL You will be fine. All you really need to be is a fan of any really popular TV or streaming series (or movie franchise) to understand the context. You've seen "Star Trek" (2009) and that's enough to understand the parody. And the movie's humor needs no preparation. You will laugh for sure. Enjoy!🖖
