#282 - Speed-Building Workout #1

My friends, you voted for more speed-building workouts - so I want to introduce you to a new series of short but effective workouts with a twist! :)

These speed-building workouts are based on a new practice concept: gradually increasing tempo tracks that push you beyond your comfort zone.

Here are your practice files for this week (backing tracks, play-along video, tabs, guitar pro): https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1yijcz00tR3po_KcJQPXBw2wrSSL_8H2z?usp=sharing

The idea is to keep these workouts shorter and easy to learn, but much faster than what I post here normally. I think the gradually increasing tempo tracks that make you practice without taking a break after each BPM step will really help with pushing your picking tempo!

Let me know if you want episode 2 soon, I'd love to record it for you - have an amazing weekend!

P.S.: Here's a Dropbox link in case Google Drive doesn't work for you: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/ry0olfwwwyhuyixhva8cy/h?rlkey=day0zze3vwkjv5x951zpyevif&dl=0

Hello, just wanted to let you know that when loading the guitar pro file in GP8, it does not increase in tempo until bar 30. Not sure if my experience was an isolated case or if the file is corrupted. I manually fixed the automation within the file and can send it to an admin if needed. Thanks!

Marco De Vera

I've just spent my first 15 minutes with this excercise, it is impressive how this approach feels so right. I'm 44 years old and this is my first serious effort to push my limits and this seems to be the way. Thank you.

Ricardo Rodríguez

Same here!!! wow... learning a lot here

Are there are videos on improving economy of motion? I notice Bernth's fingers are barely moving on the fretboard, mine are all of the place and I'm slow and sloppy as a result.

J. R.

I'm using this one!

Marcus Garcia

Man I’m just learning there’s a GP file. What a dummy. Anyway you should emphasize that the fretting hand should remain relaxed at the higher tempos. Tension kills fretting hand speed.

Doodad68

this is really challenging exercise but I am at 3rd day now and I am getting better at synchronization, but still have a lot of tto practise

Jiří Palica

Same, this is a bit tougher than it looks

Cam

Day:70BPM clean at max

I can do a max of 52 bpm right now in 2 days. Hopefully this will increase!

Santosh Subramanian

this is so awesome, but man I suck at speed :D I can barely keep up a proper technique just at 50 bpm... back to hand synchronization again :D

Vilkis

Yes, please, more of these exercises. Great concept.

Jeff Hirshberg

this is episode 1 ...repeat !?

KB

Digging the video Bernth. Interesting way to work on speed for alt picking.

woo thanks! Just what I need for today

So excited to start this exercise...terrified....but excited. Thanks!

I like this a lot because a) I don't need to learn much to do it as you said and b) the slow rampup is nice. I can easily use this as a warmup!

Ed Voas

Great exercise. Definitely going into my daily routine.

Karsten Fliegner

Thanks, friend
