#203 - This Guitar Technique Trick DOUBLES Your Speed! (+ MODULAR PICKING COURSE)

Happy December, my friends! Let's start the month with a bang - a brand new lesson and course package :)

You guys & girls wrote me a lot of messages about the crazy fast technique I am using for a while now, so I wanted to make a full course and lesson on my modular picking technique. Here's the course package (instructionals, video play-alongs, backing tracks, guitar pro, and more): https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1JJQyRZOzPfam7lh-bcnGRPe9GHc3SeSM?usp=sharing

This technique will allow you to play extremely fast as soon as you have the fundamentals memorized - it's essentially a mix of sweep picking, raking, chord/melody arrangements, and economy picking! I used it a lot on my new album 'Elevation' and also in the most recent performance videos on the channel.

I hope you have fun checking out my technique - there's also something amazing for all alternate picking lovers in the making right now, a masterclass for Patreon that's coming next week! Exciting times ahead :)

P.S.: In case Google Drive doesn't work for you, here's a Dropbox link: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/r6ht005npvcck5u/AAAv9Tewlg6til2oNF6CAfs2a?dl=0

enjoy! :D

I take it back this is exactly what he's doing at the very end. I just watched his video where it's just him playing without the backing track and it's a lot clearer what he's doing.

Barton

Definitely similar but I think he's still muting the strings enough for it to qualify as sweep picking. It's hard to tell what he's doing but I think he might even be sweep picking while palm muting.

Barton

I like this. To me it feels like a tremolo picked chord but without a wall of sound kind of texture. the rhythm is prominent but the chord is really clear. I really want to try incorporating this into both clean stuff and black metal.

Is Jason Richardson using this technique on within destruction's sakura guest solo? seems similar to my ears, maybe I am wrong, just asking...

Hey Ami, it's the other search box that allows you to look up specific content :) Did you find it by now?

Bernd Brodträger

Is this the technique Abbath uses in his music for acoustic parts?

thanks but in my search it says "Find a creator"

Ami B

Yes their is a search window on the top right just above the box for picking lessons.

how can I find a specific lesson number without scrolling all the way , is there a site map or a search window ?

Ami B

Hi , thanks for the grear content :)

Ami B

This is the best guitar site bar none, its a no brainer being a member, get onboard, Schnell. Another great lesson Bernth.

I have relatively cheap Audio Technica headphones, they're good enough for me :) I'm sure that there are much better options around, I mostly like to listen to the mixes with the monitors, that's why I got some better ones recently (Adam A7X)

Bernd Brodträger

Thanks for the reply! I will stick to focusing on one for now and go from there.

Great technique! Opens many possibilities. P.S. What kind of headphones do you use? Everyone seems to be suggesting the Bayerdynamic 770 pro but I think yours are different ones. A video about all the equipment that you use and the set up for music (listening, recording, production, mixing) that you have to your desktop would be great as well.

Evan

Thanks for asking Travis! I personally like to recommend only working on one package at a time for 20-30 minutes each day - that way, you can also include more practical and musical exercises in your routine (like theory, improvisation,....) That adds up to a nice 60-minute routine you can follow for a month before you switch to the next course! I think this is better than working on 3 of them at the same time :)

Bernd Brodträger

Thanks for the reply on this Jose! Yes, you can definitely let them overlap without any muting at all - I like to mute a bit to make the picking strokes a bit more audible and the notes just a bit more separated, but it's definitely not necessary :)

Bernd Brodträger

no, it consist on overlapping sounds as you acompany with the pick movement

Jose llopis temes

schnell und einfach, i am working with the 5th ex. it's quite challenging but also rewarding, it gave me some fresh ideas and also some patterns to also work with my sweeping too :D

Jose llopis temes

I was hoping you'd do a full explanation of this technique, it's awesome! Oh and yes please, do a solo focussed followup! Only trouble is, how do I choose what course to follow with the limited daily practice time that I have haha - I have a backlog of like, 3 lifetimes of practicing now I think :D

Edwin van Slingerlandt

My question is: do we have to mute each note when doing modular picking, kind of like when playing sweeps?

Tim Suleyman

When doing the 30 day challenges, would you say it's best to stick to just 1 at a time, or would it be better to do multiple together if time allows. I have the time to do the picking, modular, and sweeping challenges everyday and was wondering if that's too much or possibly better.

Thanks for sharing John, I'd love to do that! 🙂🤘

Bernd Brodträger

Would def love the extended course on lead guitar and guitar solos! This is really awesome, as I've tried to figure it out on my own, but with the course work, it's going to get added just in time to my next 30 days of practice! May my schnell picking show up soon!
