#141 - 5 EASY But AWESOME Shred Licks! (How To Start Shredding)

Happy holidays, my friends :) Hope you have some time to practice in the following days! Another awesome topic from your December lesson wishlist here on Patreon: 5 easy but really fast and awesome shred licks.

These licks sound great and much harder than they actually are! I hope you have tons of fun learning them and changing them to fit your own style :) I attached the tabs and guitar pro files below and also recorded helpful video play-alongs for you: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/jb99dgo42jvl1yu/AABzf184ssA68yLT_hQQXRN2a?dl=0

Hi Bernth, The dropbox seems to be wrong; the current link contains files for lessons that you did in the future from this video? :)

Hey Bernth, I was just wondering: At Lick #2, wouldn't it be more economic to play a downstroke when transitioning to the next string? Or is it just for training purpose in this example?

Robert Weintraub

This is exactly what I needed in terms of just challenging enough. I feel like I am capable of approach these but they aren't too easy at all. Just right. Goldilocks licks.

I am REALLY struggling with the first 2 exercises at 100bpms and 90bpms respectively. Specifically the 2nd exercise. I'm trying to break my bad habit of my out of control tremolo picking. Yes. I can play "lightning speed" but I'm super sloppy and hit couple of notes twice or just straight up missing them. I'm also struggling keeping my ring & pinky finger closer to the neck.

So did I!. Funny enough that lick was one of the first licks I ever learned by ear, actually quite early in my guitar journey. It was almost natural!

Hey Louis, thanks for asking that! Hello, I'm a beginner. What would be the best video to start with?
