#86 - How To Sound Faster WITHOUT Playing Faster!

Good morning to the community, it's finally time for another lesson :)

In the first lesson for this week, we will talk about speed once again. In my opinion, there are more factors to playing fast than just BPM numbers or NPS (notes per second) - with this video, I wanted to feature the other 2 important aspects of shredding! So this lesson is a bit different, hope you like it :)

Of course I made sure to feature another practical demonstration, this one is a great workout for your arpeggios, sweep picking and alternate picking skills. I attached the tabs, guitar pro files and practice backing tracks below, have fun shredding!

I'm 60 and going for it! This type of technique takes time to program your brain. From my experience on the keyboard the main thing is to focus on playing a tempo that creates perfect practice. Your brain is too powerful and will learn mistakes you practice. MUST use metronome and only push it a little at a time. I'm hoping this works for guitar for me.

Hey Justin, I'm 40 now and have been playing guitar on and off for nearly 30 years. I just bought myself an Ibanez RGA a few months ago and started Bernth's lesson videos, and I'm making massive progress in speed. Practice lots. You can do it!

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply! Ill keep trying!

Thanks for leaving a comment Justin! I think you're never too old to shred or to start playing guitar! Just look at Michael Angelo Batio and how he still plays insanely fast, tight and accurate at age 64, that is beyond inspiring and I hope that I can do that too when I'm older :) In terms of practice time, I always recommend to prioritize consistency, especially when building technique. You will see better progress with daily one hour sessions than with 3-4h sessions once or twice a week! I always split that hour into 4 blocks filled with different workouts, you can find a lot of picking exercises and backing tracks for your personal routine on here :) I hope that helps a bit!

Hey Bernth, I appreciate all you do and your lessons are awesome. I feel, however, that I will never be able to play fast, as I have been playing for about 30 years. I have never sat down studied shred technique like I am with your videos, and now I feel like all this is beyond me. Are you ever "too old to shred?" and how long do you long do you think I would need to practice a day to start seeing progress?

Sounds close to 90ish? 160?:0
