Friday Rambles and Game Dev Update 2024-07-12

It's the Friday Rambles!

Life Stuff:

I accidentally locked myself out of my car, but luckily I had a backup key at a family member's house so it was mostly just embarrassing and not like a financial disaster. I jogged regularly, and ate healthy. Gotta stay healthy to make games. You know?

Merch Stuff:

The Skye 2.0 plushie campaign started on Monday, July 8. As of this writing it is 72% funded with 17 days left, which is fine. Hopefully it'll tip over 200% (which is where a bigger cut for me kicks in) in the final days, but I'm not gonna be too worried about it. Oh yeah, I (re)drew a comic for it.

Above: This part's new. It's probably the most action I've ever drawn but it was surprisingly quick and fun. Probably because I was working against a very short deadline.

Above: based on the original Skye plushie comic, from 3 years ago

I'm too focused on the game right now to really devote any more attention to this, though. It's just a rerun, after all. Sorry, Skye.

Gamedev stuff:

I wrote thousands and thousands more words for the bonus chapter. At this point I'm no longer calling it a "bonus" chapter, because "bonus" feels like a small bit of extra content or whatever, while this chapter is becoming like, fully fledged paid DLC expansion pack size. It'll still be free, though. Since I promised. Like an idiot.

I can see the finish line. I've resolved a huge amount of open questions and plot threads, filled in a bunch of blank nodes, did a bunch of revisions and editing. It's turning out really good in my opinion, and I'm actually feeling pretty proud of it. Every time I play through I see something I've forgotten I've written months ago and it's funny and makes me laugh. But there's still a lot of words to write and art to draw. And then of course, I'll do another revision pass to ensure it's as tight and fun to play as I can get it. It's night and day compared to just a couple months ago when I was banging my head against the wall trying to get something going. I'm still hoping I can finish all the words by end of July. Just a little more!!

The Steam Summer Sale has ended. Dreams and Deadlines sold as many copies as I could have hoped for. Still going strong! I'm at least funded till the next sale, baby! And so on and so forth.

Speaking of the Steam Summer Sale, I bought a few games (but not that many since I won't really have much time to play between now and the next sale). I bought the Gnorp Apalogue, Opus: Echo of Starsong, and Patrick's Parabox. What a weird combo of games, but hey.

While looking up these games I found that there's a "Independent Games Festival" sale going on. Where do people find out about getting in these third party Steam sale event things. No one tells me anything!

The End!

Thanks for your love and support, as always! I will see you next week, when I might have some actual in-game stuff to share. Okay, bye!
