Episode 73 - Cozy Wholesome Direct

On today's episode, we take shelter from the storm and discuss the AI singularity, the evolution of animation styles over generations, the declining relationship between creators and audiences, and the absurdity of Ridley Scott.
Enjoy.

(Also, audio for this episode is different due to the deluge of rain at the time of recording.)

Accidentally posted that last comment without finishing my point. I have become very disheartened recently because I have a lot of friends who claim to want to reject and destroy capitalism and tech but refuse to actually put any of that into practice. I am seen as a bit of an oddball for actually living my beliefs i.e. having no social media, not using internet speak, not wanting to monetize my many hobbies and not reading/watching "trending" shit. THE MASTER'S TOOLS WILL NEVER DISMANTLE THE MASTER'S HOUSE I don't necessarily agree with everything you guys say but that is a good thing! There needs to be some healthy disagreement and exposing yourself to other people's views so you can learn and grow and is a fundamental of being human. Since I've made a conscious point of not living my life online, I have felt so much more peaceful and find myself actually talking to people more and it terrifies me how much just having a social media account took me out of the real world. I don't know enough about AI to really comment on whether it actually will destroy humanity or not but when it probably comes for my job I'm not too worried because I am able to grow my own produce and make/repair my own clothes and those are basic skills sadly not that many people have and that will maybe become my job. But yeah basically, this episode was extremely cathartic and I thank you both for articulating so many of my thoughts. On an art related note (art history graduate here), I think William Morris's lecture called Useful Work vs. Useless Toil is a very relevant text to this discussion if you haven't already read it. I think the Arts & Crafts movement needs a MASSIVE revival and the values of that movement I try very hard to bring into my own life. I actually wrote my dissertation on Renaissance embroidery and another good read is The Subversive Stitch by Rozsika Parker. On the points made about music at the end: Fuck yeah, Magical Mystery Tour is class. Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Peppers, Magical Mystery Tour and The White Album is a perfect run of albums. A good cross genre band I would say is the Clash from London Calling to Combat Rock. I do not want to acknowledge the existence of their last alum. But London Calling, Sandinista and Combat rock is such an interesting musical evolution as they mix straight up punk with reggae, early hip hop, folk sometimes, disco and world music (particularly south american music). The Pop Group are another good cross genre band as well, would reccomend the first couple of albums. Anyway apologies for the lengthy comment and its probably atrocious grammar and spelling as I just had to get all this out. Lewis and Luiza please keep up the the wonderful work! Lots of love from Scotland

All cards on the table here I am a raging leftie but I agree with so so so much of what you guys say! I felt like I have been screaming at the top of my lungs for YEARS about putting a lot of stuff to the side for now and coming together to tackle neo-liberalism and big tech but no one is listening. I hate the splitting that goes on in the left when ultimately all of us want the same thing and people who wouldn't identify as being left wing want those things too and if we want ANYTHING done we have to work with those people too!
