The White Ribbon might be my favorite film from one of my all time favorite filmmakers. That or Amour have been the Haneke films that left the biggest impact on me. To this day, I still feel there is a lot of unfair misunderstanding with much of his filmography with the intentions and effect the work is meant to have. And I personally have definitely made sure to expand my own knowledge of his philosophy truly because his work is incredibly entrancing to me. To put it simply, I still never think of Haneke’s work being in any way completely cynical or overly pessimistic. I only saw it as honest and eye opening.
