was there even a signal fire on yolked soldier water island or was it just the incandescent glow of the 40 most sunburned dutch people to ever live?

2025-02-22 08:45:07 +0000 UTCI feel like "why did X figure go insane" is an unanswerable question and the wrong question. Being "insane" isn't a rational behavior; and I imagine Jeronimus Cornelisz had experienced in his life a massive amount of violence, systemic and random. He didn't want to be with the VoC, and pretty much no one did, so when someone reaches the end of their rope like that, in that kind of world where "normal" is getting broken upon the wheel by the State for even the suspicion of heresy (and that is, in your idea of the world, everywhere), and throw in a helping of religious fervor, you get someone willing to do and justify anything to satisfy their libidinal anger and escape from it all.

Dutch landlord also don’t mind if you make some holes in the wall just fill them when you leave, the next renter is going to repaint the walls anyway. Making a new house your own is I believe one of the core tenants of being Dutch

2025-02-16 08:51:30 +0000 UTCMy junior year of high school in 1984 - I pour myself a big old glass of iced tea at my Korean friend’s house, and oh my god, this is not iced tea! I did like it though, and totally see where the Cheerio water name comes from. Haven’t had that in close to 40 years but now I have a weekend mission.
