Commission Work - Gihyou

I really enjoyed putting this character together, as most of the challenges revolved around how to present the character in a way that isn't just completely static or overly complicated. The biggest thing about creating new characters is really being able to present that character without making it hard to see the design involved. I think we achieved a decent balance here.
Generally, I try to stick to my references as close as I can unless otherwise told to ad-lib a bit. We got to do a bit of it here with the design, but I definitely didn't want to go too crazy with it. We even tried a couple of background colours and styles but overall the calm one felt the most natural for this character. The others took away too much attention from the character, I found.
We're still getting better and better at things, so hoping that continues!
