First Mixes: indie pop girl
Added 2025-11-28 16:00:06 +0000 UTCCan you guess my feedback on this one? π
Just kidding, I'm going to tell you right away this time, because what I learned from last time is: I will forget to go back π
This sounds great, right? Crushed it in one!
But the problem was that it just felt kind of...flat. The choruses should really pick up and feel big and intense, but they don't feel much different from the verses here. Which, and I said this to Alanna at the time, is so confusing, because there's a ton going on.
It was at this point that both myself and Alanna were a bit lost on how to have the choruses hit the way we wanted them to. So I, with my absolute void of production knowledge, spent a few hours listening to a bunch of music to find songs with momentum through the verses that still found a way to build up to bigger choruses, and sent over three new reference tracks.
And Alanna pretty much scrapped the choruses and built them up again from scratch, adding more guitars and some claps until it felt right!
This song was also really tricky vocally, because I am a human who needs to breathe, but as I pointed out last week, I did not write this song with enough time for breathing π So Alanna had a bit of extra work to do on this one with cutting up individual words at times to make the vocals hit at the exact right times π π This song. Was not meant to be sung by humans.
WHY DO I WRITE THIS WAY?! π«£

KT forgot her special skill when writing indie pop girlπ But I see what you mean by the chorus feeling flat in this version! Itβs cool you were able to communicate and work with Alanna through song references exclusively π€― Thanks for sharing KT β¨
