I am so pleased every time I get to hang out with Lise Mayer. She's such a classy, gentle, kind person with a killer sense of humour. So I was over the moon to share the stage with here. in between juggling microphones, soft drinks and audience questions, you may notice that I did mishear a couple of the stories and gags and looked a bit dumb as I didn't get the punchline. Well, I just want to reassure you that I am mostly not dumb. Mostly. I just get a bit overwhelmed sometimes.

Anyway, I'll leave you with that and the sad news that there probably won't be a podcast next week as I am away working at Boomtown festival. Anyone going? I play a character there called Patrick Kahn. Come find me!

Young Ones writer Lise Mayer joins a grumpy Alexei and an extra loud Talal (sorry!) on stage at The Museum of Comedy to discuss how The Young Ones got made, the early days of The Comic Strip, Linda's aunt Amy, what position Alexei would hold in Jeremy and Zarah's new government.
They also taste test the range of soft drinks by the Palestine Cola company!

Yup, I've seen that! Like a cross between Pinter and 70s Eurosleaze. If it had been made in the 70s it would probably have had Bogarde in the Postlethwaite role and Udo Keir as the young lothario

2025-08-02 12:18:01 +0000 UTCWhile watching this, I remembered that Lise co-wrote (with, I now find, Charlie Higson) a very strange pan-European film starring Pete Postlethwaite. It was called Suite 16, and was an erotic psychological thriller about a disabled man (Postlethwaite) hiring a gigolo to act out his fantasies. I loved it when I saw it in the mid-99s. Not sure what I’d make of it now. Anyone else know it?
