"Blueberry"
A poem for my sister.
Written Dec 2009
Your hair is blonde,
Your eyes are blue
You look just like me,
But I don't look like you.
You know too much, little girl.
I looked over you as
you watched the world
Steeping in its cold disdain.
You stood beneath and faced my fears
And you knew well beyond your years...
Oh love, I'm sorry for your pain.
I couldn't save you from the rain.
I couldn't always hold your ears,
I couldn't always kiss the tears,
And these truths drive me most insane.
Your face is fresh,
Your eyes are bright,
Burning with such vigor
Unbridled delight.
You know too much, little girl.
Baby face gone
I kiss your hair
Lean and long
Time isn't fair.
But you've got time, little girl.
Growing tall,
Still, I am taller..
I dread the day
You'll see me falter
If we both fall,
I'll hit ground harder.
Keep growing on about your way
But I want you to stay and play.
You don't know enough, little girl.
I need you more than you may know
Don't lose the youth inside your soul
And listen what you're damn well told,
Pay your mind, little girl.
Take your time, little girl.
