Let's continue with Bright Blue Sky this week. I do hope the sky is bright and blue in your local forecast today!
You'll be doing a lot of bending in this. The guitar doubles the main melody, so it's important to listen closely to the pitch of the bends and make sure they're in tune with the vocals. If the bends aren't right and the guitar/vocals are off from each other, the whole thing can sound a little sour.
Most of this takes place in your classic A minor pentatonic shape:
--------------------------5-8-
---------------------5-8------
----------------5-7-----------
-----------5-7----------------
------5-7---------------------
-5-8--------------------------
Sometimes for the 5th fret 2nd string, I'll play it on the 9th fret 3rd string so that I can slide into the note and give it extra pizazz.
The 2 or 3 notes that happen which are outside of the scale are just thrown in to match the underlying chords a little bit better.
If you have a whammy bar, look out for the divebomb at the end! Hit the harmonic and then let it drop. This can be hard to get to ring clearly, but overdrive/distortion really goes a long way with these things.
Have fun! TAB is attached. Drop any questions down below.
