Free Foundry Modules - Advice Please! \(^.^)/
Added 2021-11-01 04:52:40 +0000 UTC
Hi everyone! Tim and Ferret Foundry have made a few of Luke's maps Foundry-ready! Please download them for free below and give us advice on what you think, it'll really help us know if we're heading in the right direction and if you like them or not!
We have plans to make all our maps Foundry-ready in future, but need your help! Please tell us how you like your Foundry-ready maps!
For example, do you want ambient sounds over the whole area? Or would you prefer only in some areas, so there are other places without sound?
What are your thoughts on music? Yay / nay? If yay, in some or all areas?
Regarding lighting, should we only add that to torches or should we include extra magical effects where it looks good?
Any other requests / tips on what you'd like to see and how we should be doing things?
Thanks so much if you respond, it is a big help because we really care about your preferences and saving you guys time wherever we can! So no suggestion is too small / specific :)

I've been using Foundry for a while, but haven't uploaded anything described as Foundry Ready, so not sure how to upload it all. Do the maps and other files need to be uploaded individually or can they all be uploaded together? This info would be really useful in the Readme file.

sounds yes, music no, extra effects yes, reduce dpi so maps aren't massive, and last it would be great if they would work for pathfinder 1e as well if possible

ok, just my two cents for this. maps that are 70 to 150 dpi should be ok. I would make them into webp at 80 percent which retains most of the original quality. Would bundle them into a compendium and release that as it will have all the maps held within a db for foundry and would also reduce file size and load times. Also if there in a compendium than it means no one has to worry about setting the size and dpi as the compendium would keep those settings.

One thing I personally would appreciate is if Walls/Lighting was done as optimally as possible. My home computer is perfectly capable but the rig I end up running my games on is low end so I'd have to go through and either cut up maps or try and edit the walls if there were too many wall sections and lights etc

I have been loathe to make the jump to foundry. Heard good things but my table set out on Roll20 and I really don't have the spare time to migrate our campaign...Still, very cool to get ready-to-play maps.
Sound effects are a great idea...preset music is less so since it influences the mood of a map quite strongly and makes it less versatile.

Also, considering making your files part of the Moulinette Cloud.

I would love if your maps were foundry ready.
Ambient sounds = certain areas
Music = depends. Are we talking real music or tavern songs, wind blowing, etc? I like sounds and I can always turn them off
Lighting - Add everything you think should have light. If we don't like it we can always turn it off on our end. They are your maps, so it is nice to see how you envision them.
I agree with a comment above, keep Foundry files at 150 dpi. 300 is too large. Little things like that affect in game performance and scene load times.
I don't use your maps as much as I would like, and most of it comes down to me being lazy and not wanting to make them Foundry ready. Check out Tom Cartos and Baileywiki for some premier Foundry Ready maps.

I don't use Foundry, but I like the sounds, and I'll use them in my games. I use Fantasy Grounds. Are there plans to set up these maps for FGU? I'd love to have lighting and los already set up.

Yes to everything (provided it doesn't delay release). Can easily delete or turn off anything we don't like. I love ambient sounds with easing, when appropriate.

Amazing that you plan to release Foundry-ready maps!
Ambient would be nice in some areas. I prefer no music, but I guess you can add it and then we can turn it off if we don't want it. All lighting would be nice

few more thoughts after loading Infernal Arena and testing it out.
1. looks great
2. file size is huge; consider 150 dpi instead of 300 and using webp format instead of jpg.

ambient = only in some areas; music = no; lighting = yes to all

ambient only in some areas. yes to music. yes to all effects. this should all be bundled in a manifest file. thanks M
