Of course, he'd take money, but... the line about wanting something in a film like this is significant. He runs to where the money is. The Japanese brings the case, and the shaman acts as his assistant, making a fortune. It raises the question of who is worse: direct enemies or indirect enemies. It's likely that when the shaman was frightened by the female ghost and ran away, the Japanese ghost blocked his path. The two are like a crocodile and a crocodile bird.

2025-11-01 12:49:34 +0000 UTCHere're popular theories that make sense: "The girl" is actually a native spirit that protects the village & its people, and the Japanese man is indeed an evil spirit. And the shaman was in cahoot with the Japanese man. As for the shaman, there're a few overt visual clues suggesting the shaman was on the Japanese man's side: 1) 1:19:02 - When he first arrives at Jong-gu's house, he drives on the opposite side of the road like they do in Japan. 2) 1:27:35 - He is wearing some diaper-like undergarment like the Japanese man does. 3) Of course, taking pictures of the scene at the end As for the death hex scene, it was cross-edited as if they were going against one another in order to mislead the audience, but they might've been doing completely separate things - the shaman putting Hyo-jin deeper into the curse(thus Hyo-jin saying "Make him stop") and the Japanese man putting the hex on Park Chun-bae. The Japanese man got unconscious not because of the "death hex" being performed by the shaman, but because of "The Girl" counteracting him. 1:53:43 - "If he's a ghost, why would he be running?" - Perhaps because of being in his still weakened state due to the "The Girl" in previous night.
