2024-04-25 05:16:29 +0000 UTCIn the second chapter, near the end of the first section, a quote from Retine is oddly broken up. "You are nothing," Retine said. "Here, you must earn your place among the faithful." Not anymore" And you never will be, not unless you earn it." That's verbatim from the book, with two end quotes, and there is no subject for the verb. Before that, Jewel is stating that she is the crown princess, and Retine interrupts her. It looks like there might have been a deleted line from Jewel claiming she was something else, like a free woman, or entitled to make her own decision, and then Retine says 'not anymore.'
