Who is your favorite female character in the Highwind universe?
Added 2019-11-06 23:19:46 +0000 UTCHey, guys! So The Dragon of Highwind will be ready in just a few more days, and I am looking forward to seeing what everyone thinks. In the meantime, I wanted to take a fun poll just to test the waters a bit.
If you had to choose, who is your favorite female character from the Highwind universe? Favorite could mean whatever you want - the sexiest, the most interesting, whatever! I'm sure really curious to see what you pick!
Feel free to tell me your reasons in the comments!

2019-11-09 20:06:40 +0000 UTCThis was extraordinarily tough. I picked Kaseya. She has deep wounds in her backstory that are open to be explored, and her sexual openness and submissiveness are wonderful. She's a badass amazon, yet has a pure innocence and integrity to her that's just irresistible. I could go on, but I most love the way we've seen her grow since the first book, in both her sexuality and her beliefs. But let me qualify that choice. All of the characters you listed are fantastically distinct, sexy, and interesting in their own unique way. There are no exceptions. They all have enormous potential in their backstories for future plot lines that would make us love them all the more. Even Varassa. Especially Varassa, in fact. For all that she twisted and warped Solemi, Varassa didn't begin her life as the cold dominatrix she became. Drow society made her into that, transforming a young drow girl into a fearsome schemer and ruthless manipulator. But throughout Spider Queen, even when she enslaved and broke Solemi, Varassa's motives weren't merely cruelty. She believed she was freeing Solemi. And in Wrath of the Spider Queen, we see that Varassa now gets from Solemi the one thing she's been starved of for all her life: genuine love. In that relationship, I see a glimmer of the young drow maiden who was hammered and lashed and molded into such a magnificently callous, lonely creature. I want to learn about how Varassa was groomed to become the Second Daughter. And in the future, I want to see her change for the better. Not become benevolent, but become someone who is hot, kinky, and domineering yet behind closed doors has relationships that fill the void that drow society carved in her heart. Relationships including with Laetharys, who is just as broken and has precisely the same void in her life. Overcoming the justifiable hatred and resentment between these two, born of a lifetime of slights (plus more recent indignities), would be a magnificent story. It's one I'd certainly love to read. Not sure what, if anything, we're going to see happen between Varassa and Solemi in TaV, but I can't wait to find out. Their romance may be over, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if Solemi still holds fondness for her one-time mentor and Mistress. And don't even get me started on Solemi's potential for development!

2019-11-07 06:23:05 +0000 UTCNo I am not 100% sure about my vote, because there are certain things about her that I find a little bit over-the-top and annoying. But, when she is written correctly, or at least in a way I *do* appreciate, Valuri is my favorite. Good personality, a great built-in story, and I just like that she is ultimately a good person who shines too brightly to have her better qualities snuffed out by the evil forces that have surrounded her her entire life. There’s something beautiful in that to me.
