Spider Zero - Release

Finally some weekend reading for you guys!

I've had a handful of proofreaders look over it, but I'm sure they missed some stuff. As always, I will love you forever if you find errors and send them to me (either in comments, messages, or email - whatever makes you comfortable!)

Liar! =P

Sarah Hawke

No problem. :)

Great thanks, I'll start working through these. As long as there are a few words in the phrase I can just search for it.

Pull away? "A wave of euphoric weakness washed over me, but before I could pull way she grabbed my back and held me inside her to ensure I didn’t spill a single drop." 53

Should this be coat room? "No one else seemed to be entering the building at this point, so the coat was empty aside from a few idle servant mechs." 50 of 139

Simple typo: "I lot of what I do is just raw instinct.” Epub reader says 39 out of 139. Let me know if you need more info.

But I do want it on record that I saw that very last twist coming.

SpectralTime

It was. Thanks. ...Now, to resume the anti-spoiler silence I really should've been in two comments ago... sorry...

I just mean they are more like visions of what could have been. but there's no literal parallel universe people are going to hop back and forth from, if that's what you were afraid of.

Sarah Hawke

I just can't help but notice that they seem suspiciously-similar to a might-have-been scenario where the Dominion wins instead of their rivals. And, if the fat-cat human nobility and alien servants terrified of eye-contact are any indication, becomes no less despotic and tyrannical than their rivals are now. Arguably worse, given their seeming-infighting and open racism, buuuuut I've already been disciplined for thinking of it as a parallel universe...

SpectralTime

There's no lingering parallel universe or anything so dont worry about that 😛

Sarah Hawke

...Part-way through, shortly after the point where Cole has a vision of a party, and I kinda wish I hadn't stubbornly waited for the finished product to come out so I could sourly warn you that introducing the concept of myriad parallel universes is a hill many an SF writer has died upon. But... I mean, it sometimes works, so I'll play along. At the very least, after last book felt like a bit too much of a holding pattern for me, things are happening in this one so far. Also also... I don't know how I've missed until now that the Dominion is a shell of its former self. Guess I need to go back and re-read the setting primer. Aside from that, my major comments are basically that I still feel the Tareen are playing the whole "big angry evil alien reptiles" thing a bit too pat, and that capitalizing the names of alien races while leaving "human" lowercase is a bit of a bugbear for me. Hell, the Tareen even lower-case the first letter of their special-pet-word for human, dreega! ...Unless that means "psion" I guess. Not sure I don't kind of agree with the Obviously Unsympathetic Villains about the inherent hypocrisy of training your own army of psions because psionics are dangerous, but... Also, the subtlety of the titular character switching nouns in her viewpoint chapters does not escape me, and I applaud it. Always like that kind of thing. ...Subsequent comments are too spoilery for me to throw out on the release day. Blah.

SpectralTime

Thanks! Can't wait to read it. I'm gonna start now.
