I remember when it was a form of dirty humor to try to flip up skirts, even if I myself knew that shit was wrong. I'm not saying "boys will be boys", there is no approval or excuses being made. I'm simply saying that Mineta's immaturity highlights his actual age, which is a stark juxtaposition to the role he's trying to grow into. It's not JUST ugly fanservice, it's a small narrative for a useless nobody that no one likes....and it's an experience many can resonate and learn from.

2024-09-13 22:09:22 +0000 UTCMineta is the only person in Class 1-A who acts like a teenage boy all the time, which is arguably why he's the "worst", but also I think it makes his hero arc pretty interesting to me. Like, a 15 year old being scared when terrorists show up makes sense, being lame and thinking life is about trying to chase skirts makes sense. He doesn't have a cool Quirk that makes him popular, he doesn't have the body, he's just some dickhead trying to live the "good life" he sees on TV. Even though I'll never cosign him being a perv, I always take it as the series reminding us how truly immature children are compared to the mature heroes they're trying to become.

2024-08-21 21:00:57 +0000 UTC@mihokiryu No clue what you said in the beginning, but there are quite a few people who hate Sanji. I've never seen DBZ so idk what Roshi is like. I've got a big love-hate relationship with Sanji, I even stopped reading one piece for a while because of how annoying he was. But even then he has tons of other good qualities to make up for it. He's a well written character, he's cool, he's kind, noble etc. And that is the difference. Mineta has nothing to offer - his quirk is ass, his personality is sh!t, there is absolutely no substance to his character except being perverted. So while yes, him being a pervert is annoying, it's not the only reason he is disliked. There are tons of anime characters who are weirdos, but majority of them have more to their characters than just being gross (sanji, hisoka, brook etc.), hence why they are liked and mineta is not.

Im not sure what to expect from Mineta through out the rest of the seires, but so far, he's not likeable at all. Not just because he is a perv. Characters like Roshi and even Hisoka from HxH are extremely flawed and pretty disgusting at times, but they are far more entertaining, well written and far more important in their series.

Wondered just like you why people are hating on him like he is worse than Hitler. I have seen people love even serial killer villains cuz they are either cool chars or smart or something. They can call that a good char but Mineta is where they draw the line of likability. That's insane to me. xD I liked the little fella. His quirk is unique, never seen that power personally. He chooses to be a hero and tries to be helpful as well. That's good enough redeeming quality. Dumb people will say 'he has zero redeeming quality'. That same person might end up saying somewhere else, "Yoshikage Kira is such a koooooll character. I looooove him!" People can't control what they hate, very often. Generally, people take personal space privacy very seriously. Some even prioritise it over death. I guess... those kind of people treat Mineta like Hitler while idolising evil villains as characters? Or even liking Roshi cuz of nostalgia? Well those people are gonna be insane to me still no matter how much they defend Roshi with his good deeds. Cuz they can't see good that Mineta does, when he is literally trying to be a hero in a hero show. I believe you, like me, also don't have as serious physical privacy code as Mineta haters. That's why we could enjoy the comedy as it is, without feeling "ewwwwwww". While Roshi perhaps is loved either due to Nostalgia, or cuz he is way stronger than Mineta, belonging to a more iconic series.

Mineta for whatever fucked up reason somehow managed to get in class 1-A yet to compare him to roshi is an insult to roshi's legacy. Only thing they have in common is the perv attitude but unlike roshi, that is all mineta is. There is a huge difference between having complex characters that have many things going on for them and they happen to be a pervert as to show they are not perfect. Jiraya is amazing mentor and teacher and super strong, if you remove perversion from his character he still have so much to offer and would be interesting character (even better than interesting since it is perversion that makes him a flawed character). If you remove perversion from Mineta then you just stopped drawing his character as he stopped existing. Its not hypocricy to hate mineta because he did not show anything to redeem his screentime. Every time he gets a chance to prove why he is a hero, chance to redeem himself, they just double down on his creepyness and how useless he is. Lastly i hate him even more than others do cause although i hate the creepy perversion what bothers me even more is that there is so many cool characters that are not in class 1-A but somehow this piece of shit exists and story keeps trying to keep him relevant without ever making it redeemable
