HxH Eps 134-135 REACTIONS!

Comments

It was absolutely romantic lmao

Green Oak

Meruem & Komugi had care for each other but not romantically. Obviously you guys know but just to clarify.

remvrk

I also think it’s worth noting that Mureum also became blind like Komugi

Wooch1x

I started HxH a few years ago and watched the first half, stopped, and never went back to it. I decided to watch it again because I wanted to watch these reactions and I'm glad I did. I won't lie this particular arc irritated me often and I forced my way through it, and again I'm glad I did. Like Carlie all I wanted in the end was for Mereum to be able to see Komugi before he died. Their time together exceeded my heart's desires. That last scene with him constantly checking in to see if she is still there, the tenderness in his voice, her touching his face and holding him, giving him affection he's never experienced in those last moments. Ugh, I'm so in my feels.

DSSimp1

I think a lot of people just... miss that this wasn't Gon "making a mistake", it was Gon trying to commit suicide, and shutting Killua out. It's not him being monstruous there, it's Gon being forced in a situation where he has to admit his selfishness killed someone he loved, and his reaction to this being "I need to die."

Arkeus

It's so painful and bittersweet. Mereum only fought with Netero was because he wanted to know his name, and he only wanted to know his name so that he could tell Komugi πŸ˜”

Mei-Sin Lai

Here's my counter argument to that. I do agree that it could have been handled more efficiently, and it could have been better. But that's like a given anyway. Regardless of its flaws, hypothetically, if there's going to be an effort to remake the arc with the goal of fixing the pacing issues or making it more efficient, I'd be against that. I'd say just keep it as it is, flaws and everything. Why? Because if it's going to be remade, there's also a high likelihood of screwing things up. As an example, DBZ Kai cut a lot of fillers but the original DBZ is still preferred by most ppl. The earlier parts of Fullmetal Alchemist was also better until it caught up to the manga and had to deviate from it, and FMAB had better pacing, but the earlier parts in the original was still better, especially the whole Nina thing. Heck, we can use HxH itself. It's generally accepted that the Hunter Exam arc was better in the 1999 version than the 2011 version and yet the 2011 had a much better pacing and it cut out fillers. Better pacing and efficiency doesn't always mean it's going to be superior.

Astor Lefflinker

NAHHHH! I just SAW the "AVERAGE LEAGUE PLAYER" comment and lost my shit haha that's too funny

Deathonater5

So now we can talk about the Chimera Ant b-story that hurt the pacing of the arc. It was all a Rube Goldberg contraption to lead Welfin to say "Komugi" to the King. There was also Killua making his second friend, and showing the chimera ants becoming more human, but all of this could have been handled way more efficiently. Cut out some of the chimera ants from the story, or combine some of the chimera plots into one character. This arc was perfect if it weren't for that bloat

Paqi

😭🀧 Also how Ange feels about Gon, I understand that feeling.

Mei-Sin Lai

The reason Mereum kept asking if Komugi was there was because he went blind towards the end due to the poison destroying his organs. The final image show was how Komugi was able to see the king when she felt him with her hands

Bright Appiah

I think one of the great things about this arc, that you only realize in the end, the Ants never had a chance. "You know nothing of humanity's infinite potential for malice". Nen is not the reason humans are powerful. Meruem was probably the most powerful individual being to ever live, and he died not by the hand of human mastery of Nen (even though Netero was the ultimate example of that), but poisoned by a weapon humans can cheaply mass produce and use mostly against each other. Most people will never know what happened in NGL, the Ants were never an existential threat, humanity has faced far worse within itself

Oloserian88

I tear up every time I watch this episode!

Wesley Lambert

There’s a theory about how gon has been mentally unstable since the beginning of the anime. His rage moment makes total sense after watching the video. I would recommend it, it’s on YouTube (there are no spoilers)

Hasan Fakhri

Ange didn't cry either, what are you talking about ? 🧐

Nessa.

There it is again damm it im crying again... Como amo HxH!

yea I love poetry

insights about the final gungi match meruem and komugi played Kokoriko is an advanced Gungi technique developed by Komugi that centers around isolating the King (as in the Gungi piece, not the Chimera Ant), separating it from the other pieces and killing it off. Just like Netero and the Hunters were planning to do to Meruem. However, Komugi unexpectedly develops a counter to this technique in the middle of a game, meaning that the King piece (representing Meruem) no longer has to die (since he unexpectedly survived the nuke). Then, later on, when Komugi uses Kokoriko again, she actually develops a counter to the counter (when meruem says "she reversed my reversal???"), representing that the King piece (Meruem) apparently actually does have to die after all (because of the Rose's poison). Meruem sees a blinding light radiating from Komugi as she "reverses his reversal", making her "the light that illuminates even the all-powerful light". However, immediately after beating Meruem using Kokoriko (symbolizing his imminent death), Komugi and Meruem start one final game together, a game that they never finish. 1-5-1 Black King -> 9-5-1 White Lieutenant General, I believe, or something to that extent. Immediately afterwards, they die together, leaving on the board Meruem's one black piece and Komugi's single white piece, together in Gungi forever. This represents that the two were always united through Gungi, and will continue to be together even after death, undisturbed and united for all eternity. Meruem places his piece down, symbolizing his death, and then Komugi responds by placing her piece down next to his, showing that she is perfectly willing to die at his side.. The black screen/black panels in the manga show that the Rose's poison has made Meruem go blind. That's why he has to keep asking Komugi if she's still there, because he can't see her anymore. This is ironic because his name means "the light that illuminates/shines upon all".. Despite being far weaker (and blind to boot), her light shined far brighter than his. Then, as he dies, Komugi holds him and feels his head, allowing her to finally "see" or know what his face is like. Thus, as they die, Meruem joins Komugi in blindness as she joins him in death. Meruem can finally see what Komugi has been seeing all along, and knows what it feels like to be blind like her, and Komugi finally knows his face, allowing each to understand the other more as they fade away (the OST used during their death scene is called "Understanding"). Touching, isn't it? Togashi is a mastermind, and this entire story, especially this arc, is a masterpiece, a beautiful work of art, a canvas depicting love, hatred, innocence, corruption, happiness, suffering, loyalty, betrayal, anger, sadness, life, death, malevolence, destruction, resolve, determination, avarice, sacrifice, "true" power, truth, and understanding." -copied from another comment section

souma shou

some ironic facts from this arc - The fact that netero died like an ant, sacrificing himself for his colony of humans, and meruem died like a human, spending his final moments with the one he most loved. -Meruem only accepted netero's challenge to find his name because komugi once asked for his name (I'm not crying you are) -Komugi only opens her eyes for playing gungi however she opened her eyes for meruem's final moment -The fact that Meruem finally understood Komugi's darkness by becoming blind, while Komugi was finally illuminated by Meruem's light as she could see him by touching his face at the end, true to his name. -Komugi's phrase, "I may not be much, but please, let me accompany you" is an old fashioned way for Japanese women to accept a marriage proposal. -and the saddest of them all. meruem died without ever finding out that bungee gum posseses the properties of both rubber and gumπŸ˜” (jokes)

souma shou

that's just you

souma shou

damm did you come up with that

souma shou

what an episode and journey.... glad to be reliving it with you

andrebadass

literally top 3 saddest deaths in all of anime and it's a VILLAIN, togashi's just on another level. also yeah gon is most definitely a bad "Friend" due to his selfishness which gets in the way of looking after others as you've seen in the show numerous times, not necessarily controversial. also the reason i love the welfin build up episodes which ppl consider filler is precisely bc of how it pays off in 134 with meruem and him coming face to face, he's such a key player in this entire story and after much contemplating he's honest with himself and expresses to meruem that he is his enemy without need for self preservation, and meruem's change in personality truly shines the most in his response, no animosity whatsoever but also clarity on what matters to him the most, to welfin, gyro is as important to him as komugi is to meruem.

gee

β€œThen I shall repeat myself..”

Muza

i saw several times the scene with Komugi and Meruem and it always brings me to tears a bit ... Togashi is genius

MihoKiryu

Gon lost himself to vengeance but people forget he acted in self defense for some reason. Pitu literally said i am going to kill you now. Like he was dead if he didn't do the powerup he did. Pitu even if showed Gon respect in the end of the day like Yupi was a loyal follower of the King, he was the number one priority the rest be damned.

Jay

How easily people forget, its really sad. In the whole series Gon always went above and beyond to help his friends whether that friend was Leorio, Kurapika or Kilua. Literally risked his life to help Kurapika with the Spiders or going to the Zoldycks for Killua but he is being selfish sometimes in way a kid would be and you get people people calling him names ignoring all the good he has done prior.

Jay

This episode, especially the end of Komugi and Meruem, is really one of my favorites episodes of all times

Reanisu

I do think that Gon is a bad friend. It's been a few arcs that we have hints about that. Don't come at me, but even when he's helping someone, it seems to come from a selfish side of him, i don't know how to say it... I love HxH and Gon is a good character, but I can't say I like him as a person in the end.

Reanisu

I've seen HxH numerous times over the years, but Meruem and Komugi's final moments always make me cry. It also kills me that the queen named him with such love in her heart, and that Komugi was the last to say it with the same amount of love. Meruem missed the first sign of affection, but he didn't miss the last. 😭😭

chui

Was waiting for this

Overstayer

Gon is a good friend, but anyone is capable of being a bad friend at points in their life.

Ethan J Soto

I think he is. He’s just made some mistakes.

Antique-Item

Gon definitely is NOT a good friends lmao

JayPierlis

He was a nameless beast destined to kill and destroy Yet the crown and throne gave him no meaning nor joy For most of his life he was enslaved to a destiny But in the end he realized he was not born for tyranny He was born to bring light and hope to a fragile flower She was born to gift sight to a king blinded by power And so the mightiest of kings passed his final test And in the arms of the weakest creature, find everlasting rest

Whammadoodoo

134 gets overshadowed by 135 a bit but I think it's just as good, the suspense with Welfin trying his hardest to think.... just amazing writing

Marlon

wth i don't remember that being so sad

Jeremy0_01

You start to see how the main moral of this ark is how a monster can become human in Meruem, and how a human can become a monster in Gon. The contrast behind his steady growth and Gon’s decline is what makes this ark so beautiful.

Christian Baer

My favorite part is that Meruem begins to view the world as komugi does in his final moments. He becomes blind and continuously calls to her. I also love that in this moment, Meruem has embraced his human side completely and his final wish is to be called by his name again. This was something Netero commented on in their battle. In this arc, Togashi is kinda saying that what makes you human is your individuality. One thing that expresses that individuality is our names and that becomes what validates his existence as a human.

Alexandrite Qween

Unfortunately, I didn't cry for that episode because I found it very, very predictable. Although very beautiful, the ending was something I had expected ever since Komugi first appeared on the show. It is a very memorable episode for me, but I would have loved for it to be less predictable and more "shocking", if that makes sense.

Nessa.

here como the water works!! one thing i noticed, back when he was basically begging palm to tell him where komugi is he says "I'll repear it as much as you need" and we all know his "i won't repeat myself again" shenanigans, this just made it more special to me :((

Starzlix

Meruem means "the light that illuminates all" but it took a blind girl for him to see what he really wanted. Also if u remember he always says "Don't make me repeat myself" and yet in his final moments he's repeatedly calling out to Komugi to make sure she is there by his side when he lost his vision.

Adam Novak

Now you see why in my opinion Meruem is my favorite antagonist ever written. I wanted him to survive so badly. I could write blocks of text but I'm just proud you guys went on this journey to watch my favorite anime of all time ❀️

Adam Novak

At the very end, you can see it as if Meruem (that was pure darkness, evilness) finally achieved what his mother wanted for him: to become the light that shines upon the world, however for Komugi's blindness (Komugi meant the world for him so in other words, he achieved what his mom envisioned for him). At the same time, one can say that the fact that Meruem was constantly asking for Komugi would be the irony that he himself was turning blind due to the poisoning, and on the other hand Komugi was guiding him through his final moments, becoming his eyes to see the final path and accepting death, making it a soft and tenuous passage to the afterlife.

Gabriel Menezes

Gon may be the main character. But the story doesn't always revolve around him. And I kinda like that actually

Jason Serrano

seeing carlie getting choked up during the outro convo 😭 i feel the same girl 🫢🏻

Sofia Ruelas

episode 135 is the only time I saw my boyfriend cry

Martina

Time for my favourite episode of the series

criccode

At the end of the day, this whole arc was a love story. Not romantic love, but love nonetheless. Gon did what he did in the name of love, and Meruem ended up doing what he did out of love as well. Love can be both liberating, allowing us to become best versions of ourselves, aka Meruem. And it can be constraining, filling the absence of love in our heart with sheer violence, aka Gon. A lot of hatred and destruction is borne out in the name of love. That was true in the show, and true in life as well. This arc was beautiful.

GS

This episode was by far the best in the shoe imo

Deathtiger 101

it makes me cry every single time without fail

Yvan

Nah Ange you didn't need to cook with how the meaning of Meruem's name linked to Komugi's blindness, man got me sobbing 😒

Ezile Xozwa

I’ve never cried watching a movie or tv show as much as this episode. Everytime

HotBowlofSoup

It is such an unexpected but beautifully set up arc with Komugi and Meruem. But at the end it feels like it was always meant to be. I love this episode.

Sam B

135 is one of the best episodes of anime of all time, and my favorite for sure.

Project2501

The last scene with Meruem and Komugi always gets me

Cinnamon Girl

I know episode 131 is...well, episode 131. But this is what I was most looking forward to when they started HxH. Beautiful stuff.
