In the brothels, they perform/provide services for money. It's full of beautiful women, who get to live their lives in luxury while at the brothel. Their job relies on their beauty, skill, and sometimes their purity. But also; they're kind of trapped there, until they get old, sick, or someone buys out their freedom. Same with the rear palace. Full of beautiful women who live in luxury, at the service of the emperor. But also; stuck there until someone else takes them (like the woman from episode 3 who marries the soldier) and can't freely live their own lives as they wish. So a garden, full of life, beauty and luxury. But also a cage.

I hope I'm not misremembering it, but I think Apothecary Diaries (anime, manga & light novel) is currently one of the most popular ones in Japan! So it wasn't that big of a surprise it got renewed immediately! I'm caught up with the manga and read several of the LN volumes already and can highly recommend both to anyone who liked the series so far! Also, the second half of this season has my favourite episodes, o can't wait for you to get there!

2024-05-12 19:44:40 +0000 UTCthe jiinshi-maomao firing scene really stands out to me as a REALISTIC communication breakdown between a couple,, so often in romance anime it feels like the drama is played out for way longer then necessary because of misunderstanding that could be easily resolved if the two people just had an honest talk about it... that is technically the case here too, but the context and social status difference really makes it feel earned. they both want maomao to stay, but jinshi doesnt want to force it on her against her wishes, and maomao doesnt want to ask for special treatment, so they fail to get it together. It makes sense and feels earned in a way a lot of anime drama.... doesnt.
