I mean it's pretty obvious that what prompted your comment is the word friendship in the description. I don't think they're afraid to admit anything, they just see what Gon and Killua have as friendship and there's nothing wrong with that. Friendship between two boys or two girls is beautiful and something to be celebrated. It's also refreshing. I've watched and rewatched both the 99 version and the 2011 version, also read the manga, and I never felt like what Gon and Killua had was romance. That's not because I was afraid of admitting anything, it just didn't look or felt like that to me. Also, claiming that Togashi said something to support your claim when there's no official source that backs it up doesn't help. There's more evidence to suggest that Gon and Killua's relationship is pure friendship like what I mentioned above (being vague to avoid spoilers).

I've also found no official sources of Togashi saying what you said. What's official though is in the ending that he said we'd get in case he died before finishing the story (Spoiler Alert if you don't wanna know what Togashi released just a few months ago) Gon did fall in love with the only girl his age in Whale Island and had a family.

2024-01-21 08:01:01 +0000 UTChe has more screen time cause he is a plot mover not cause he is interesting. he is phantoms troupe connection to hunter world thanks to his licence so whenever there is explanation required for why and how phantom troupe knows something OR why and how phantom troupe is moving, he gets screen time. even when chrollo was the one calling shots "armin" guy still played key role in terms of informations and data so he also serves as information tool for viewers. i personally find him at bottom of tier lists of interesting phantom troupe members just because he is too generic and boring (personal opinion) though i do know his name but that is cause i watched show so many times so ofc i will at least know all the names of phantom troupe and other key characters

Usually people will go out of their way to explain things like this as friendship despite no preteen or young teen boys ever expressing emotions (or internalizing feelings) like that during friendship. Even though the manga creator says outright that Killua and Gon can 100% be read as a love story, some people are still afraid to admit it for some weird reason. It's just cute.
