2024-01-19 06:25:55 +0000 UTCnishinoya is kind of guy who understands he cant score in sky but he loves looking others score. its a whole thing back in season 1 with asahi. he works hard as libero so he can keep the ball up in order to see from back lines spikers his the ball. in that moment nishinoya was full of pride for pulling off succesfull rolling thunder and he was watching the net with full confidence that karasuno will score and he wants to see it. For kageyama to tell him "get out of way" is both insulting to his skill and his character and it was very ill timed on top of it all. and all that coming from someone younger than you in japan is unaceptable

He was just stating a fact in an awkward way (Nishinoya has no idea what he's talking about, to him Kageyama just randomly told him he sucks). And just the fact that a first year bluntly told him what to do can be viewed as "cocky".

2024-01-16 07:00:09 +0000 UTCexactly what aglesh said. anime did poor job of portaying kageyama as intented in manga. when i first watched it i was so confused when asahi made a comment about kageyama frowning... kageyama was so used to high level talent where everyone can keep up with him and he cant help but compare karasuno with the youth camp candidates (its natural to compare) so he was supposed to be frowning a lot when he sees lack of talent. he went from court full of people his or higher level to court where he is overwhelmingly more talented and that can be frustrating. it is similar to being sent to sit on a kids table at formal dinner as a grown adult. But in anime you cant see any of the frustration and voice actor was simply reading out the lines and instead of frustration and anger and disrespect, what we got in anime can best be described as raised voice. the other thing is cultural difference. For kageyama who is first year is unaceptable to talk so directly and bluntly to his supperior and he did it not once but twice. anime potrays it as if he is annoyed with situation and expect others to be on his level so they side with kageyama, but it is not about that. it is about his lack of respect in the way he speaks. his remark to asahi and then nishinoya are bratty attitude that is not acceptable in japan, it is not a showcasing of higher skills

2024-01-15 19:36:40 +0000 UTCBecause the anime does a very bad job at expressing what the author wanted to express here. For some reason the Voice actor does not express the annoyance in Kageyama's word, and in Asian cultures, respecting your elders, even by one year is important.

So even now, rewatching it, I don't really get why people bristle when he tells them where to be. He's the "why are you booing me, I'm right" meme.
