2023-09-27 17:29:51 +0000 UTCIf you guys haven’t watched the opening yet, I just need to make one thing clear, since I haven’t seen it mentioned that often and I myself didn’t realize it until much later. The first opening opens with someone who looks like Ed. HES the first person you see. In my head, I just went “oh it’s Ed” when it was playing all those times. But no. It’s NOT ED. Look at his clothes! Look at who the next person it pans over to is, it’s their mom! THE VERY FIRST PERSON IN FMA WE SEE IS HOHENHEIM! I remember rewatching the series and thinking “man we never see Ed in those clothes” and then connecting the dots and getting chills! Maybe I’m just dumb but that was completely lost on me!

I'm hopeful that Carlie & Ange will react to the 2003 anime someday, maybe a few years down the road, so I'll leave it at that for now. Unfortunately, the 2003 anime gets a lot of unjustified hate. The show was a huge success, and without it, the series wouldn't have gained as much exposure. We probably wouldn't have gotten the FMAB anime when we did without the 2003 anime's exposure and success. Remakes existed at the time, but the success of FMAB boosted the trend.

Therefore the makers made some changes and placed their some of their own creativity in it (with the author's permission). Some fun parts are from the manga, such as Havoc's flashback on the date he had with Catherine Armstrong (the Armstrongs' little sister). There are more scenes of Hughes showing off his daughter. Sadly, as far as I remember, the 2003 anime didn't come with a happy ending.
