Give me ideas for phased battlemaps!

Hi everyone, I am drafting the March map poll and I would like to open up the floor to everyone for map ideas to include in this upcoming poll.

In particular, I am looking for ideas for phased battlemaps. For those who don’t know what a phased battlemap is, it is a map that evolves with the encounter. The GM can choose to progress the encounter at any time, such as in between rounds. Here is an example.

These can be dungeon rooms with dynamic traps, burning buildings, or anything else your mind may come up with.

Feel free to drop your ideas below.

_ i think a military campaign map of city's or castle defense would be usefull and spectacular. The different objectives apply wether in a historical or fantasy setting. i imagine moments like in meereen siege in games of throne, or dark moon tales. Close or cut down woods, fields and raods and food supplys, a river nearby to control, underground water control or poinsoning, high enough ground with difficult to reach position but tower or ramp construction option, with tunneling and countertunneling attacks vs the walls, maybe a secondary position like a fort , Oh! and a port, may be separated like Rome's to easiliy get rid of it on the drawing if it doesn't fit the mj's story. a mare is always a vicious part of a region inside buildings and functions, and last resort forts for long range attacks or civil unrest ... all ideas from famous siege in history like Avaricum , Gergovie , or Massada

_the moral and dimensional path and kingdoms Since dnd, through w40k and stormbringer or hawkmoon, and still in mage the ascension , i love giving a graphic visual map of morals and their ideals , their kingdoms, or the impact on earth. Chaos and magic versus stasis and science ; life and good vs destruction (but possible reincarnation and end of stasis ), *it could be a "classic d&d alignement" four corner map, *or coming from the center, either spreading diversely in the map, or : i would imagine a setlement and village and its vital functions, to summarise this; including the cemetery, pollution, urbanism, fields, forest and tree house or deforestation, bloody inhuman temples or magic towers , or industry, ... i see this as a "meta body" , and it makes me think of Vitruve's man, with the structure coming frome the center and **i can imagine that 4 criterias would make this a lot more complicated. Sorry for the headache. :-) . So i guess keeping only two would work. But in my campaign i wouldn't want to forsake chaos or nihiilism choices. May be showing that life+ chaos would bring "viral spreading " ; and that only a harmony way would work: between life and death **i'm not sure, but i think it means that a hyper neutral-good could as much be a happy tree house elven empire , or a warhammer 40k human one with hightech and warp powers.

_i like using giant creatures, titans, city golem, or living ships as an enemy or friend and fighting ground. You just gave me the idea of it losing parts or "life support" or city or blocks, ... guns and organs, ... it also reminds me of video games where the boss loses visible functions like armor, guns, ...

oh i love these ! some "snacks for thought " : _i always loved the indiana jones roof trap. I consider this a bad idea or a challenge since we always use top view ! :-)

I have considered a lava flow as well as a landslide or some type of natural disaster. The graveyard encounter sounds amazing too! I'll add them both to the poll.

TheWrathofKhan

My wife suggested a map with a lava flow crossing it. Not necessarily covering the whole map, but as an obstacle (I could see both options). Similarly, an area which gets hit by a rockslide, landslide, or avalanche could be useful in some cases, but I don't think it's as interesting. And as a final idea... graveyard, with more and more graves being torn open so GMs could do a 'rise of the undead' wave-styled session?

Ooh I’m loving this! I haven’t made a steampunk map yet so it’ll be a good challenge

TheWrathofKhan

Steampunk 'power core' room with vents which blast steam or fire from pipes throughout the room. Possibly a variant where the core detonates, too.
