The Lost Boys

Welcome to my childhood

David Rositas

Just did a little research and it seems the reference was way more overt originally. In earlier drafts Kiefer Sutherland's David was going to actually be named Peter and his group was going to be comprised of much younger kids. Guess they decided to dial back from the direct connection a bit.

I don't know if this is just pointing out the obvious, but it didn't come up in the title discussion at the beginning and I don't see anyone else mentioning it. The Lost Boys is a direct reference to Peter Pan and his group of the same name. They never grow up, they just have fun all the time, and they can fly. So this is that but with the whole vampire horror twist.

I love the creepy tone to the song Cry Little Sister, and it’s been on my All Hallows Eve playlist for years. 😈

You have so gotta react to both 1985's Fright Night and 1987's Near Dark now. Along with The Lost Boys, they kinda form this trinity of just really good 80's vampire movies. Fright Night and Near Dark would make for such great reactions.

For George, the song is Echo and the Bunnymen's cover of The Doors' People Are Strange.

It's fascinating to look back and see how many movies influenced Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The Lost Boys definitely influenced the character design oof the vampires in the first movie. What's more, the fictional town of Santa Carla was definitely the inspiration for Sunnydale. As for other inspirations, many BTVS episodes were directly inspired from Star Trek: The Original Series. And Clueless was acknowledged as the influence for writing the teen dialogue in Season 1. However, there is a significant amount of dialogue in Clueless that showed up earlier in Buffy The Vampire Slayer 1992 that I suspect Joss Whedon may have been an uncredited script editor.

Stuart Sutcliffe

Uh, that’s Bill S. Preston, Esquire to you! And in a movie with the guy who replaced Ted “Theodore” Logan in Speed 2, no less. Also, speaking of Ted: seeing Diane Wiest pop up as the mom in this movie reminds me, they gotta watch Parenthood, featuring Diane Wiest and a young Keanu, which came out the same year as Bill & Ted. So, weirdly enough, she was in movies with both Bill and Ted in the same year. Ok and one last note now that I've got Diane Wiest on the brain: boy would I LOVE to see George and Simone react to The Birdcage, which remains one of the funniest movies I've ever seen, hands down.

Fun Fact: The 'Twilight' vampire was Bill (Alex Winter) in Bill and Ted
