Better Call Saul 603-604

The piece of glass in the cold open for Rock and a Hard Place obviously is the found object Nacho uses to cut his restraints and to grab Juan Bolsa's gun. Interestingly it is a piece of the glass that Gus broke in the last episode. I just noticed on this watch that just as the camera pans down to the glass it pauses for the briefest moment to show the the cut restraints. In the next episode we see Gus arriving at his home and realize that he's built a tunnel to his second property and that his "main residence" at least at this point in time, is not his residence. He's wearing body armor and has a gun strapped to his ankle. All necessary but you can see on his face that he is uncomfortable living his life this way.

The thing you gotta remember is that the last time we saw Lalo he was about to cross the border but changed his mind to get proof. He even killed the smugglers for not giving his money back. Not saying it's totally impossible Lalo is in the US, but it would make zero sense to go through all that to just enter the US anyway. Neither in a practical sense or even a story sense. Wherever he is it's not in America. Maybe he wanted to hit up Canada to get all those drugs that are apparently being smuggled in.

Adam Vialpando

Actually I believe Vince didn't really wanna focus on those names because he was afraid it would box them in having to force in 2 characters just because of one throwaway line. He was especially hesitant with Lalo because of all the fan expectations (and even some of the writers) of a character so scary he was like Saul's Boogeyman. It was Peter Gould who advocated for the characters. As much as Vince should be credited for the series, BCS really was Peter's show. So much of what makes it so distinct is because of him.

Adam Vialpando

I know this is totally random and likely isn't going to be read but I'd like to suggest Bojack Horseman as a replacement show. I highly doubt anyone else will recommend it and it probably won't get chosen but I'd like to just put it out there. It's an amazing show.

Adam Vialpando

Funny thing I heard the other day that we see a bit of here: Whenever you see someone make a call and get no response for ten seconds it's super suspicious and alarming, but when you see someone receiving a call they can comfortably debate and strategize for minutes before answering. And I think people disliked Wesley cause he's so much written for children. I mean he's a special boy genius with a magical destiny who can solve problems the adults can't and gain the respect of the grumpy captain, and even when he's drunk he's always polite and happy. Adults in the audience might be annoyed with how much attention he gets, while children who grew up watching him would later be embarrassed of idolizing him. I have a distinct impression the anti-Wesley sentiment is widespread thanks to a minority of emotionally immature people.

In breaking bad jesse says that "half the deals i’ve ever done went down in Taco Cabeza "

Martin

The podcast is fun. It's kind of like a less formal commentary track. And, the behind the scenes people are very funny and entertaining.

Angzarr

I really think you guys need to stop looking at the name of the episode, you're so focus on that than you miss things, like stuff on the security cameras at the beginning.

Martin Roca

He looks...different. And it was a long time ago.

Inkpendude

Ditto, Vince Gilligan has been making a new sci-fi that has been described as a hybrid of X-files and Twilight Zone (in terms of genre). I have been hyped for it for ages. Wycaro 339 is the name of it...but there's barely any details, besides Vince making it, and Rhea staring as main cast.

Imthecatman

Disappointing you guys didn't recognize Spooge from Breaking Bad. Hint: "I aint no skank!"

What a character exit ❀️πŸ”₯. I am not an actor but I want lines likes that πŸ†. So long Nacho πŸͺ». Beef Nacho(s) 🫠 Stay classy George πŸ––

SpankTheMonk

For me…his best role is Buggin’ Out in Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing.

Just finished Episode 3, few thoughts. One, Nacho took himself out for Mike, I think he knew Mike would be the insurance, knew he was a sniper, but also knew Mike would hate himself but do it because it needed to be done to protect Nacho's ApΓ‘. Nacho made some mistakes in life but he lived and died like a warrior. Awesome character, would hope to see him in more roles but you know Hollywood only has so many slots for Mexicans, and Pedro Pascal (Chilean) gets most of them, I'm just kidding. It's Michael PeΓ±a lol Also, two, fun fact, or maybe more of a little theory I just thought of, Lalo's alias, de GuzmΓ‘n, although there is a place called de GuzmΓ‘n, the origin is from the Visigothic (Germanic) era of Spanish history, and GuzmΓ‘n would translate to Gutman in German, or Gussman in Austrian, or Goodman in English πŸ€”

MacGuffinStuff

I'm assuming y'all have picked your next show (or I just missed it), but if not, here's another vote for The Bear. The new season is killing me, in a good way.

Jesse Coombs

I'm surprised BCS didn't (at least so far, to my knowledge) land Michael Mando aka Nacho some decent movie roles or something. Great actor and totally believable. He could carry a lead movie role imo

Ben

So cool you noticed Rhea directed 604. Can't wait for her new Vince Gilligan show coming (supposedly) soon.

Helly R

if it makes no difference then why cant they do 3? not to mention it does make a difference because this season has odd number of episodes. so at some point they would have to do a week of 3 or a week of just 1. and 3 at once is better than wait a whole week for 1 episode.

robodong

Please don't do 5 6 and 7. Just stick with 5 and 6. It won't make a difference. On the day of shooting Nacho's death, the crew had on a shirt of Nacho. I still need to get me one. There should be footage and pictures somewhere, but it is safe to wait till after watching the final season so you don't see thumbnails of spoilers. "What asshole moves a cone?" What asshole would waste so much energy on stupid shit just to mess with Howard? lol. Stuck between a George and a Simone.

K!ll Molli

Hell to the yes. My favorite part of the week! Edit: Also, between nails on a chalkboard and walking in wet socks

KatMakes

Andor and Twin Peaks for next poll.

ShadowStunts

And now we have a title for a Huell spinoff that's so good they all but HAVE to produce a show to go with it! #HuellComesThruell

Justin Leone

now that Nacho is dead, I think it's safe for you to check out the photos on Michael Mando's twitter feed taken on set and elsewhere with co-stars from the show including enjoying ice creams with the twins (if you want to hear what they sound like check out S4E4 of the Better Call Saul Insider podcast) and quite a few from his off screen bro-mance with Patrick Fabian (Howard Hamlin)

Gordo

Everyone knows it’s Wendy!

Vengeance

It's still amazing to me that the first time we meet Saul in Breaking Bad he mentions two names: Lalo and Nacho. And they were throw-away names to never be thought of again. But this new show took those names and created two of the most interesting and complex characters in the Breaking Bad universe. Well done Vince Gilligan, Michael Mando, and Tony Dalton.

YouTube Subscriber since "Princess Bride" now a Patron for Star Trek TNG.... Years ago y'all (George) picked 'Terminator 2' as having *AESTHETICALLY* the best death scene ever (the hyperventilating Dr. Miles Dyson) and I am curious where George and Simone put Nacho Varga on their list as far as artistically-rendered death scenes. I think the Nacho Varga death scene is one of the absolute best ever, so powerful. ....(The greatest of all time, though, even more than the shower scene in 'Psycho' and the Spock scene in Star Trek 2, is absolutely from 'Serenity': "I am a Leaf on the Wind")

W_E_Ray (Dungeons-Dragons Grognard since '81)

George, it's not tar in that abandoned tanker in episode 3, just oil. Howard drives a 1998 Jaguar XJ8 (X308). The episode happens in 2004, so his car is about 6 or 7 years old. Bought new, it would have cost Howard about $57000. It's always a good idea to signal your turns no matter if anyone else is around or not, be it on a bike or car. Makes for good habits! When I lived in Philadelphia and had to use on street parking in front of the house, everyone on the street would "reserve" their street spots with a trash can or usually a folding lawn chair, most often in the winter after you shoveled out your spot and didn't want someone else to take advantage of your work! George, Ed Begley Jr (Cliff Main), who is a noted environmentalist, has been on The Simpons twice (season 10 and 20), so your Flanders remark is not far off: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LvUItaradGE I was a little surprised to see that Gus wears clip-on ties. So I looked it up and someone on Reddit speculated that it was a choice so he could not be strangled with his own tie! Makes sense to me!

REDR58

Episode 4 opener is just a bunch of people Gus pays to front that they are the neighbors. If Lalo built that tunnel out of his bathroom tub- compare that to Gus' version going next door...

"Stuck between a wet sock... and cold feet. Wait no, that's the same thing." πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Never change, Simone.

Ryan Skinner

I never got around to Ozark but heard nothing but good things about it. Mindhunter are Narcos are great. And I thought The Bear was an incredibly realistic representation of working in a restaurant.

Jonathan Eaton

Lalo San Diego πŸ˜‚

Jonathan Eaton

Ozark, Dark, Mindhunter, Narcos, The Bear, all great shows to check out maybe Ozark is my personal favorite, Jason Bateman is fantastic in a more serious role

802jay

I don't know if I've recommended these before (sorry if that's the case) but great TV shows to watch after BCS would be "Dark" or "The Bear".

Ginger

Giancarlo Esposito (Gus Fring) was in a great movie with Tom Cruise and Sean Penn called Taps(1981)

Jonathan Eaton

Shit...episode 3 again... OK, let's get this over with...

Chris B

Hector, desecrating Nachos body at the end of Rock and a Hard Place is a whole other level of petty. The way he has to be carried up to the body and handed the gun is pathetic.

Carlos Hurtado

Happy Canada Day!

mky

How about stuck between a Lego and a sharp place? Either way, that foot's getting pain lol

Nathan Jasper

His β€œYou think of ME” growl is so fucking good. Simone’s reaction to that line delivery was spot on.

Jeff K

I've seen this before but this is the first time I noticed him. It really shows his degeneration due to drugs.

megamoo chilli

Just finished episode 3 and Big Shout Out to Michael Mando, aka Nacho. Idk how this guy doesn't get more roles, but deserves it. I'm sure mentioned but his portrayal in video game Far Cry 3 was one of the best villains ever. This guy can bring something.

Shonnicus

Spooge is in Breaking Bad, he is the one who gets the ATM dropped on his head by his partner when Jessie is in their house.

Mike Medaugh

Didn't Hector choose to blow himself up?

8bitAndy

The irony- EVERY character in Nacho's last scene is DEAD by the end of Breaking Bad- that is what Mike described as the "Bad Choice Road".... Walt kills Mike over nothing, Hector blows up himself, Tyrus and Gus, Victor is box-cuttered by Gus, Hank kills one Twin and Mike finishes off what Hank started with a lethal injection with the other Twin, Gus has a hit team kill Bolsa in his own compound....everyone in the desert that day will be dead within a few years due to greed and lust for power... EDIT: the ONLY ones who have left on their own terms are NACHO despite being between a rock and a hard place, of either dying or being on the run and having someone kill him and his dad, and Hector who gets "some" agency back by helping Walter blow up Gus...

Actuarial Lurker

There's a documentary about US troops and middle east conflict called "Between Iraq And A Hard Place" I kid you not. Very hard to take it seriously with such a title.

BangDroid

"When you are sucking down your jello, think of me"....EPIC

Actuarial Lurker

RIP Nacho :(

Vengeance

I feel like the list of things Simone thinks are worse than wet socks is very short.

8bitAndy

You can say that again.

Cam

Simone: Wet sock or World War 3

Inkpendude

All I’ll say about episode three: Michael. Motherfucking. Mando.
