2023-08-14 22:34:30 +0000 UTCThe traditional independent Japanese style coffee shop is called Kissaten, and while there are a lot fewer than there were 30 years ago, there are still plenty around. You just have to look for them because they are very low-key and are usually tucked away in alleys or on the second or higher floors of buildings.

And she definitely didn't expect a couple of potential hires to walk in within minutes of posting the help wanted sign, I imagine the expected turn around of that type of advertising in a small town would be a couple weeks at least.

2023-08-14 11:13:20 +0000 UTCThere's a Starbucks in Bexley OH that's in an old bank building, and there's seating inside the bank vault. I was also once in a McDonald's in Nogales AZ when a live mariachi band (that I hadn't noticed when I walked in) started playing. No shrines, however.

2023-08-14 08:06:39 +0000 UTCJust so people will know, there is way less caffeine in espresso than just plain drip even made from the same beans. Someone knows why for sure but my hypothesis is the extra heat in the espresso brewing process does something to the precious Vitamin C2 (as we called it in the Army) that destroys it or makes it not as bio-available. So 14 shots is like the same as 3 cups of drip, maybe 4. Way less than what you need to climb chandeliers.

Which... was like the weirdest thing ever to me, because in my area (in California) Tully's was a chain that died out several years ago... and yet they thrive on the other side of the world! Craziness.
