Devilish Gaming: Ch.31

Ducking backwards while raising his left forearm, he blocked the imaginary slash from his image of Chojiro before his left fist pushed forward, his right fist coming around and lashing out with a heavy hook to the imaginary Shinigami's side.
Following up with the blow, he spun and delivered an elbow to the air before finishing off with a heavy right straight, inhaling deeply before exhaling slowly as the force of it made the ground tremble.
“So, you've decided to stay with boxing?” Yoruichi asked as she sat on the porch, Chad nodding as he stood back before taking a deep breath while raising his hands to the sky.
“Yes, I do enjoy having the other styles, but boxing…it just fits.” He answered while exhaling slowly, relaxing his body and enjoying the ache from working his muscles as the cat just hummed.
“Ha!” Both of them turned their gazes to see Tatsuki throwing a high kick, the girl spinning with the kick and throwing out a leg sweep before jumping into the air and finishing off her spin with a spinning heel kick.
“Hah, this Hakuda really is tough to learn.” She spoke as she turned to Yoruichi, who smirked as Chad sat down besides the cat.
“Considering it takes Shinigami years to get some of the techniques down, it's actually impressive that you're able to learn it.”
“Eh, I credit that to my years of karate training. The katas feel like the they're the same, but they have their own unique differences so I have to change a few of the movements to fit me.”
“Speaking of changes, you are right, Chad. You're far better at boxing than the other fighting styles and since your ability is based around your hands, that makes it even better.”
“Plus, you're not the type to kick. No offence, but I can see you struggling with the few advanced kicks I've tried to teach you.” Tatsuki spoke with an apologetic smile and Chad just smiled while nodding.
“That I agree with.”
“What about that new thing you learned? How's that going?” Yoruichi asked and Chad smiled at her question while bringing up his Status Screen.

With a simple thought, Chad swiped across his face with his left hand while flaring the Reiatsu inside of it and took a deep breath as he felt his power swell, exhaling slowly while looking to Yoruichi who hummed as she looked at him.
“Not bad. One second to activate it and the power increase takes you from the average Captain-level of Reiatsu to a bit above the average. What's your time limit?”
“Three minutes and ten seconds.” Chad answered, both his voice and Diablo's warping into an atrocious combination as the cat just hummed before Tatsuki spoke up.
“Think I could learn that move?”
“It's something unique among Fullbringers to me, I think. We could try.” Chad spoke with a shrug and Tatsuki just nodded before they turned as they heard the excited voice of Orihime.
“Hey, guys! They said the Dangai thingy is working again! We can finally get back home!”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“So, you are finally leaving?” Chojiro asked as he took a sip from his black tea, Chad nodding while taking a sip from his own cup as the two sat in the lieutenant's room at the Division 1 Headquarters.
Formerly, this scene would have surprised everyone since the entirety of the Seireitei knew how much Lt. Sasakibe liked being alone during his tea time, but the Lieutenant had to be honest when he said that he had formed some kind of bond with the young soul.
It was a bond that one would find between a mentor and his student and Chojiro couldn't help but feel some sort of attachment to the boy as he watched him looking at his tea.
“Do you feel that you are prepared enough for the coming battles?”
“I do.”
“The enemies will not be as lenient as I was during our battles. You may lose your life.”
“I know, but what friend would I be if I let my best friend fight his battles alone?” Chad asked with a smile and Chojiro couldn't help the soft chuckle escaping his lips as he put his cup down and nodded.
“I too have a best friend that I have been with through thick and thin, who has helped me fight the most treacherous of battles just as I had helped him. I can see parts of myself in you and I admit that I am waiting in anticipation to see whether we will be the same person at the end of your journey or not.”
“I understand.” Chad spoke with a smile as he stood up, the two sharing a nod before Chojiro watched as the young soul leave the room while finishing off the last of his tea.
The next moment, he inhaled and exhaled a few times before standing up with a smile, readjusting his uniform to make sure it was perfect and began making his way towards the Captain Commander's office.
After all, this battle has shown him just how much weaker he had gotten during this time and as the right-hand man to the leader of their organization…
'That is a mistake we cannot afford.'

“Where have you been?” Chad looked up as he heard Ichigo speak, taking note of everyone else waiting for him before he responded with a smile.
“I was drinking tea.”
“Oh, yeah. With that Lieutenant Chojiro, right?” Ichigo spoke and smirked as Chad just nodded before turning back to Rukia as she cleared her throat.
“Looks like this is the end for our little journey, huh?”
“Eh, not really. I know you will be coming to visit us.”
“You have that much confidence in that?” Rukia asked with a raised eyebrow and Ichigo snorted as he crossed his arms with his smirk widening.
“Of course. After all, you still need to get your stuff from my closet, shorty-Ow! What the hell was that for?!” Ichigo exclaimed while rubbing the side of his shin, to which Chad decided to tune the two of them out as he turned to the others.
“Have you all done your goodbyes?”
“Yep! Yachiru even gave me some sweets!” Orihime said with a happy smile as she held up the small bag, Tatsuki just shaking her head as Uryu adjusted his glasses.
“I have said my goodbyes to those that I wish to say goodbye to.”
“Including that one Shinigami lieutenant you had to fight against along with her captain? What was her name again? Nemu or something like that?” Tatsuki teased with a nudge and Chad smirked as he saw Uryu's blush while he huffed.
“If you must be so crass, that is her name and yes, I did say goodbye to her, but I also said goodbye to many others.”
“Of course, you did. What about you, Chad?”
“Only had the one to say goodbye to.” Chad answered and Tatsuki hummed as she crossed her arms with a nod.
“Same. I wonder how long this is going to take.” Tatsuki muttered as she turned to the gateway where Kido Corps members were chanting under their breath, Chad watching them do so before turning as he heard footsteps approaching.
“Ah, I managed to catch you all just in time.” Jushiro spoke with a smile as he walked closer, Ichigo and Rukia ceasing their conversation as Chad paid attention.
“Uh, are you sure you should be out and about, Captain Ukitake? Won't this negatively affect your health?” Rukia asked with a concerned look and Ukitake gave a soft chuckle as he patted her head.
“There's no need to worry for me, Rukia. I made sure to check in with Captain Unohana to ensure that I am allowed to move around.”
“Still, though, I don't think there would be something that important for you to risk your health.” Ichigo spoke with a frown and Chad wanted to agree as he went to speak before freezing as Ukitake smiled while taking out a very familiar wooden badge.
He wanted to say that it was most likely just something else from what he was thinking, but as he stared at the hollow skull engraved on the front of it, he found himself lost for words as Ukitake held it out to Ichigo.
“Take this with you, Ichigo. It should help in letting you move from your human to Shinigami form whenever you need to face off against Hollows.”
“Really? What is it?” Ichigo asked with a surprised look as he took it, Ukitake smiling as he went to answer before blinking as Chad spoke first.
“It's a Substitute Shinigami Badge.”
“You know of it, Sado?”
“A friend has one as well.” Chad answered and Ukitake blinked at the response before nodding with a smile.
“Well, what is this friend's name if I may ask?”
“Sorry, I don't think he would be happy with me if I told you about him.”
'So, they don't trust Ichigo at all.' Chad thought with a stoic look as he stared at Ukitake, who was a bit confused at the sudden stoic gaze before nodding with a smile.
“Very well, but if this friend wishes to speak with us, I would be most happy to meet them.”
“I'll tell him, then.” Chad spoke and Ukitake nodded before nodding to the others, Rukia giving them one final wave before she followed after her captain right as the gateway opened.
“I'm guessing this Ginjo guy is the one with the badge?” Ichigo asked and Chad frowned before nodding, surprising everyone as he placed a hand on Ichigo's shoulder and looked him dead in the eye.
“I can't tell you why, but if possible, get rid of that as fast as you can.”
“W-What? Why?” Ichigo asked and Chad frowned as he looked around before gesturing towards the portal.
“Let's make it through and I'll tell you all.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Who the hell…forgot to tell us…that the flesh train would still be there?” Tatsuki gasped as the group laid on a large flying cloth, catching their breath before Chad noticed Urahara and Tessai sitting in front of them.
“Hey, you guys made it!”
“Really? We just had to outrun something that was trying to kill us and you open up with just a 'Hey'? Not concern about what just happened or with an explanation or a sorry for almost turning Rukia into a human?”
“I do not have an explanation and if I had to do it again, I would.” Urahara spoke bluntly as he took off his hat, surprising the teenagers as the man sighed before bowing his head.
“I apologize for the fact that it was your friend and do not think I hold any animosity for Ms. Rukia. If it was any other Shinigami, I would have done the same thing, but it was just unlucky for her that she was the only Shinigami with the conditions I needed during that time.”
“One that lost her spiritual energy and one that needed a Gigai? Were those the conditions?” Uryu asked, his frown deepening as Urahara put his hat back on and nodded.
“That is correct, Mr. Ishida. However, I must admit that I did not expect you all to make it through the battles unscathed, though I see that some did bring a few souvenirs.” Chad noticed the man looking at his arms and looked down to see the tribal markings he had in his spiritual form still there.
However, they didn't feel as if they were overflowing with Diablo's Reiatsu like before and they also seemed to be fading away.
“These are from my battles. They'll fade with time.”
“I shall take your word for it.” Urahara nodded and Ichigo blinked as he remembered Chad's words before turning to his best friend while taking out the badge.
“So, you going to explain what you said now? What is this really?” Ichigo asked as he held up the badge and Chad noticed everyone looking at him as he took a deep breath before exhaling slowly.
“Mr. Ukitake was not lying when he said that it will allow you to switch from your human to Shinigami form as you pleased, but he did leave out a few details. The first is that it also acts as a monitoring device for the Soul Society.”
“Monitoring device?”
“Mr. Sado, I do not believe Mr. Kurosaki needs to know this.”
“Why not?” Ichigo asked, to which Urahara just hid his face as Chad continued speaking.
“Because what it does is allow the Soul Society to spy on you at all times, but that is the least of what it does.”
“There's worse than spying on someone without their consent?” Tatsuki asked with a slightly disturbed look, the others except for the older Shinigami having the same look before their eyes widened as Chad continued.
“It also allows the Soul Society to slowly limit your power, making sure that you are at a level where the captains can…take care of you should you become a threat to the Gotei 13.”
“And you know this how?” Ichigo asked slowly before exhaling softly as Chad spoke with a wry smile.
“Because Ginjo used to be a Substitute Shinigami with the same badge before the Soul Society tried to kill him. That is why he is mad at all Shinigami.”
“…Did you know?” Uryu asked as he slowly turned his frown to Urahara, who gave a regretful smile as he nodded.
“I did.”
“…So, the people I just fought against to save a friend…are now trying to monitor me at all times to see whether or not I might become a threat or useful to them?”
“The moment you decided to regain your powers, you lost whatever chance you had at a normal life, Ichigo. You have shown skills far beyond that of the average Shinigami by learning something in three days that takes others years to do.”
“That is still a violation of trust! We have been hanging out with these people for the past week! Hell, we even had dinner with some of them and you expect us to believe it is right for one of our friends to be monitored?!” Tatsuki exclaimed before blinking as Orihime reached up and grabbed her arm.
“S-Stop. Just…stop.”
“B-But-…”
“Orihime is right, guys. It's…it's okay.” Ichigo muttered as he lifted the badge before Urahara sighed as the teenager crushed it in his hands.
“Thank you for the help, Mr. Urahara, but I think I'm going to walk home now.”
“Ichigo-!”
“It's Mr. Kurosaki to you. Good night.” Ichigo spoke as he dropped down, Uryu, Tatsuki and Orihime doing the same as Chad stood up.
“I hope you understand that your words may have some unforeseen consequences, Mr. Sado.” Urahara spoke before his eyes narrowed as Chad turned with his Hollow Mask covering his face.
“I do, but I'd rather we all die than have Shinigami use my best friend as a pawn in your games.” He spoke before he dropped down, skating through the air while shattering his mask midair as he dropped to the ground with a soft thud.
“Hah, fuck.” Ichigo cursed as he sat down, Chad doing the same while the other three frowned.
“You okay?” Tatsuki asked as she looked to Ichigo, who looked up with a smile and nodded.
“Yeah, but I…just don't think I'm going to be able to look anyone from the Soul Society in the eye now.”
“Well, except for Rukia because I'm sure she didn't know of it, right?” Orihime said and Ichigo chuckled as he nodded.
“Yeah, Rukia's a close friend so I know she's not a part of this. Thanks for telling me, Chad. You didn't have to.” Chad just smiled at his best friend's words and nodded.
“A simple thing to do for my best friend.”
“And there you two go again with that.” Uryu spoke with a roll of his eyes, Tatsuki smirking and Orihime giggling as Ichigo snorted.
“You're just jealous you don't have a best friend.”
“Unlike you, I do not need constant friendship from others to feel good about myself.”
“You saying I'm clingy?” Ichigo asked with a frown as he stood up, Chad sighing as he stood up and kept the two from swinging at each other.
“I am. What are you going to do about it?”
“Oh, just stand still and see how many teeth I can knock out!”
'Hah, I guess nothing has changed.'
A/N: And so, we end off the Soul Society arc~!! On top of the few changes I made, Ichigo now also knows the secrets of the badge and has destroyed it?!
