Humans took advantage of an evolutionary quirk of the red jungle fowl (native to Myanmar and surrounding areas, and ancestor of chickens). Jungle fowl will lay eggs any time there is a surplus of food in their area. So, feed chickens quality food all the time and they will lay all the time. In warm climates, this can be year round.
