Interesting. Very interesting.

I calmly walk through the quiet street while looking at the various buildings on either side of the street. All of the buildings are extremely varied in their appearances, with some of them looking like small castles, others like modern mansions, and others even having the appearance of a more medieval-style house.

Although one thing’s for sure. They all seem to be some sort of home.

I continue walking for a little while before deciding to check one of them out, only to end up walking into an invisible wall at the outskirts of the land while getting a notification to appear in my vision.

WARNING MESSAGE

COMPETITOR ‘LARRY FOLKNER’S PORTABLE EXPANDED SYSTEM STORE IS CURRENTLY SET TO PRIVATE. PLEASE TRY AGAIN ONCE THE VISITABILITY HAS BEEN SET TO PUBLIC, OR YOUR USER IDENTITY HAS BEEN ADDED TO THE WHITELIST.

My eyes widen slightly, only to narrow again a second later.

So everyone’s portable expanded system store’s are within the conjunction? That explains how those crafters are going to set up their stores.

Also, it means that we can invite other Competitors into our portable stores to meet with them in private.

This really is a nice addition to the dungeon.

Or, it would be if I was actually a very sociable person. Which I’m not.

As if on cue, I hear someone shouting my name from down the street in the way I came.

“Wolf!”

When I look back, I find Crystal walking towards me with Ariana and Norbert walking next to her.

Well, that’s not a combination I expected to see.

“Yeah?” I ask once they get close enough while also shifting back to my neutral form, mostly because it’s just easier to have a conversation in this form.

Although that turns out to be an awkward action considering how the three are all just staring at me as I transform. Fortunately though, it doesn’t last long and Crystal says, “I wanted company while looking around this place, and you’re the Competitor I’ve talked with the most. Is it really that weird?”

I raise an eyebrow at that before glancing at the other two standing next to her in an unasked question.

“Oh, these two?” She says after noticing it, just to shrug and add, “They’re tagging along for some reason.”

My eyebrow twitches at that, and I can see that the two ‘tagalongs’ next to her don’t exactly like her phrasing either. But neither of them say anything about it and instead, Norbert says, “You’re the only Competitor with an infection-based species here outside of those other arctic lycans, so I followed her to find you.” Meanwhile, Ariana just says, “Favor or no favor, I’ve yet to have any positive interaction with anyone outside of either you or Deadshot here.”

Hmm, I can accept those reasons.

Also, it would be interesting to talk with another infection-based species.

I nod towards them before turning around and saying, “Then let’s go.”

Maybe I can find my own system store here. Or at least that crafter’s, assuming they’re still alive.

Which is iffy at best, but I think I do remember seeing…

At that thought, I pause and turn to look at Norbert to ask, “You ran into that crafter not too long ago, right?”

He just nods his head, so I nod back in appreciation before continuing on with the others following behind me.

So the crafter might actually still be alive.

With that thought in mind, we continue to walk through the street for a little while, passing by the various different expanded system stores along the way, with many of them being really large and others being extremely small. Eventually though, we end up finding my own store and the others are blocked out when they try stepping inside.

At the same time, a menu appears in front of me.

Competitors Norbert Heinrich, Crystal Leblanc, and Ariana Silverheart have attempted to enter your private Expanded System Store.

I grimace at the sight of the menu.

Does that mean that that Larry guy – whoever that might be – got a menu when I tried entering their store? Because that would be kind of awkward…

Anyways, I select yes on the menu before watching the others pass through where the invisible wall just was with ease.

It’s not like I have anything in the house that they can steal.

I walk up to the front entrance before opening it and walking in, just to walk over to the living room and plop myself down on the sofa with a sigh. Meanwhile the others all slowly walk into my store, with Ariana and Norbert both looking around in wonder. Although neither of them have as much confusion or awe as they otherwise would have, considering that they’ve likely seen this level of technology – even if the technology isn’t actually working right now – through livestreams of other Competitors’ portable expanded system stores.

I watch them look around for a few minutes in silence before going over to the totem that’s currently sitting in the middle of my living room and getting a soda to drink. Which seems to catch Ariana’s attention, considering how she walks over to me and asks, “What is that?”

Without bothering to answer, I simply buy another and hand it to her while drinking this one and sitting back on my sofa again.

I lie back on the sofa while watching her slowly figure out how to open the bottle, only to be surprised by the fizz for a second and then raise it to her lips and sip it. And then spit it back out.

My lips arch slightly in amusement at that before I look at Norbert, who seems to be more interested in the sword hanging on the wall behind me. Although the real one should be with mom right now.

Norbert then walks over and sits on a recliner on the other side of the Christmas tree – which was up the last time I was home – and smiling for what must be the first time since I’ve met him.

“I wish we lived in a high tech world,” he mumbles while closing his eyes.

I chuckle at that, just to laugh even harder as I see Ariana accidentally snort the soda.
