Haha ok Stephen, that´s a very interesting take on it. :D Thinking you hat the episode, until you watch it again. That´s something I have never heard before :D And thank you for the info about how the monster actualy got created. :) And I agree, it somehow felt a little off for me, too. And about their love life joke...I totaly agree. I mean kids wouldn´t get this reference, but it kind of feels out of the shows character to do that. But then again this episode was a very unusual episode, so.. I don´t know .... And I didn´t notice that the actress is the same, than the one on Harry Potter. I saw this episode so when it originaly aired and then, never again. So thanks for telling me :)

I always think I hate this episode until I start to watch it again. And I remember how good the whole concept (of the "superfans" researching The Doctor and getting side-tracked) and the performances are until we actually see the Absorbalof. Which was designed by a child for a competition organised by the BBC children's programme, Blue Peter. Nothing against the child and I do lie a bit of silliness but it just doesn't work for me. Either the idea or the actual design. I'd still give it the benefit of the doubt but the joke at the end about their love life should have been cut after the first draft. Did you notice that Ursula is played by the same actress as Moaning Myrtle from the Harry Potter films!

I don´t know. This episode and the peoples take on it, is so strange. I was so surprised by the rating, I really don´t know why people think it´s bad. But then again, you do like "fear her" and I really don´t. I guess it´s just like you said. Different people, different tastes. But in the end Dr. Who has an episode for everyone, no matter what you do like :) And by the way thank you for your tip about the space question that I had. I did try your combination, but it didn´t work. I have tried other combinations, and found out that for me "shift" and "Enter" do work. Maybe it´s something different for every country?

I'm afraid I'm one of those people who steer well clear of this one! I watched it on first broadcast, and then....no more! On the other hand,I quite like Fear Her. I really don't get its poor reputation. It just shows how all our tastes differ :) BTW,if you want to leave a space (like I did, just now),its: CRTL + Shift

Great that you're feeling better. Yes, the kid drew the absorbed faces on the monster in his original picture. At this point in New Who the production team was engaging with the public in lots of ways like working with this competition. One of the things that I enjoyed was that they released audio commentary tracks which fans could download from their web site and listen to while rewatching the episodes. They also had a behind-the-scenes show they put out after each episode called "Doctor Who Confidential". The Confidential for "Love & Monsters" is on YouTube: "Doctor Who Confidential Series 2 Episode 10: The New World of Who". I've just re-watched this Confidential and it's safe from spoilers. There are a few quick shots showing guest-star actors appearing in some Classic Doctor Who episodes - but no spoilers even for those stories. In this Confidential they show some of the Blue Peter competition show and the winning entry being announced. I had forgotten how many children sent in entries in the competition - 43920 entries - wow! They talk with the kid who designed it and interview members of the cast and crew in the production. [I compose my message in a separate editor and then paste it in and the paragraphs are just there. However Shift-Enter might work to insert a blank line. It probably depends on browser and operating system.]

Hi Andrew, now that I´m feeling better again, i do want to answer your comment, too :) I´m glad you liked the episode, too. I can´t really understand, why some people do not like it. It´s one of my favorite ones. :) The only thing that I would change, if I could, was the looks of the alien guy. Because that was soooo gross :) But that´s it. The rest of it was just great, and I laughed so so much :) Oh wow I just read the part with the competition for the moster, and this is just awesome. I mean only the thought of doing something like that. It shows that the creators are not afraid of challenges. Do you know, if it was also the kid who came up with the faces on the moster? Because that would be something really scary, if a kid thought of something like that. I also liked it beeing so lighthearted. Just before the big finally, everyone is so tense and can´t wait to see everything go to sh.... So it´s really nice to have something lighter and funnier, before everything gets dark and serious. :) By the way, could you maybe tell me, how did seperate your paragraphs in such a nice way. If I press Enter it just closes the message. hmmm

Thank you for your comment and your subscription Andrew :) I will answer your comment a little better, as soon as my mental state will be a little better. But I wanted to show you my appreciation, so just a short "Thank you" for today :)

You're not alone in liking Love & Monsters. I like it too. But it is divisive - I like the humour, the warmth of the LINDA group, the references to previous Who episodes from Elton's point of view, and that we get to see Jackie's home life and how she is handling Rose being away. Other people run away screaming. There were a few reasons why this episode was written like this. The monster was the winning design of a children's TV competition to "Design a Doctor Who monster" and Russell T Davies had to come up with a plot to use the creature that won. The monster looks a bit awful and gross - but then it was designed by a nine year old. They also needed a script that was Doctor-lite for production reasons (the Christmas special had meant an additional story in the schedule) and an episode that didn't focus so much on the Doctor meant the TARDIS crew would be able to work on other stories while this story was being filmed. Obligatory Buffy reference: Russell T Davies said part of his inspiration for the Elton-focused story was Buffy's "The Zeppo" episode.
