This lovely shot occurs in the beginning of the story and I wanted to give the impression that something is not quite right with the farmlands here, giving cause for Pumpk and Cham to show up in the first place. It was Sarah's idea to add some smoke to the ceiling beams to show that whatever happened to this house was fairly recent. The smoke she placed in the Photoshop file was on a separate layer so it gave me room in After Effects to generate some movement with the Turbulent Noise effect. I added the same effect to some of the grass in the foreground to give them a tiny bit of sway.
I didn't want to neglect adding some "breath" where I could, including the clouds in the background.
You'll notice I brought the camera closer, rotated the house about 3 degrees and tilted the camera VERY slightly, just so the shot feels a little... OFF. I got the idea from Full-Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood where the Elric's house is shown to become more distorted the closer Ed and Al come to changing their lives forever.
