It’s a small moment, but I love how quickly Buffy adjusts the plan to let Giles go on his date with Ms. Calendar—especially considering how often the roles were reversed last season, with Buffy having other plans that Giles either made her cancel or, at the very least, gave her a hard time about. Another show might’ve played it for laughs or manufactured a bit of drama—Buffy insisting Giles had more important things to do, or Giles standing up Ms. Calendar for the greater good. But no: he has something he genuinely wants to do, and Buffy understands that and makes room for it. It shows how much Giles has evolved—and, more broadly, how much his relationship with Buffy has grown.
