It can be difficult to watch, but in a way, I think scenes like that are what makes the show great. It's a nightmare come true, so there's no need to worry about realism. Why not have the nightmare father just rattle off all the absolute worst things he could possibly say? I think it's something where most other shows of the time would have sanded down the sharp edges, but not Buffy. They're not afraid to punch you in the gut ten times in a row, really make you feel it - even if "it" is horrible. Like they say, art is supposed to make you feel things, for better or worse. Love Xander in this episode. Had the courage to not only face his fears, but actively attack it as well. Like you said, too bad it wasn't a N@zi who got punched, but hey, we can pretend it was a N@zi clown. Also, even though it's not explicitly stated, I like to think that he has nightmares about N@zis because Willow, his best friend, is Jewish. It speaks to his character that one of his worst fears would be more about Willow than himself. And we get one of my favorite Giles lines. "Willow, do, shut up." RIP Michelle 💔 She'll live on through her work, but the Buffy fandom will never be the same.

2025-02-27 02:07:20 +0000 UTC"I know it's a nightmare but I want to punch that man in the face" Absolutely, one hundred percent, completely and totally justified. That series of dialogue along with the acting, both the delivery and SMG's response, make it incredibly easy to hate Buffy's "dad" in that moment exactly as intended. But what's really messed up is when we realize that those are her fears ie how Buffy thinks her dad or even parents think about her, which in turn is some version of how she thinks of herself 🙁 I hope the role of the Chosen One comes with a really big Chosen plate because this girl sure has a lot on hers. Wonderful reaction and always looking forward to the next one.
