The Pacific Ep 5 Full Length Reaction (+ Interviews)

Apologies for the late evening upload of this. We've been having power outages, and I've been trying to get The Pacific, Fallout, and Deadpool & Wolverine uploaded today. Otherwise, I'm trying to get new videos posted at 10am.

One of the areas where this episode really failed (I'm not sure if it was the writers or just lost in editing) was the significance of the scene where Sledge and the others were scrubbing the oil barrels. It felt like they tried to shoehorn in this scene for character development, but it doesn't really work with the flow of the rest of the episode. In reality, those marines failed to clean the barrels properly for whatever reason and did not realize that the Marine Corps planned to use them to store water for the coming invasion. So when they landed what water they were able to bring ashore was contaminated with oil and not drinkable. Just one more failure in planning properly to make this island the hell hole it was!

The Pacific is back! See, that wasn't so bad! Ok, well I have to commend your growth -- these scenes still take a toll but you are handling them better than when you first started this series! As someone else mentioned, it will get a little worse but the writing all the way to the end is a lot better than the first half and that's saying something.

Faiz Zahari

Also from Fringe.

Chris Gunderson

Don't worry. It's going to get a little worse. For any consolation: The character development is incredible as it focuses on far fewer characters from the other two series.

Brandon Toum

Yay! So happy you're back to it! I was beginning to wonder.

Tom Runge-D'Amore

Oh dear 😳 Thank you for explaining! And I will have tissues and my emotional support corgi ready and on hand for the rest of the series!

I thought I recognized her from somewhere! I don't think I ever would have made that connection, though. Thank you!

Btw, the woman in red at the beginning was Anna Torv, aka Tess in TLoU.

Russell Roberts

Well you did it. You're halfway through the series and... it's going to get very rough very quickly. The reason everyone is asking about water is the marines were expected to land and advance further than they were able to by the end of the first day and it was 115 degrees in the sun. The supplies weren't able to be offloaded and their water was still on the ships at the end of the first day.
