Poignant when Sid dies. Buffy picks him up with tenderness and maybe a little reverence. She must identify with him in some way. He at the finale of his vocation; she just beginning. Knowing that he dedicated years to his purpose, and perhaps sacrificed in ways no one will ever know, to stay true to it. If and when Buffy encounters other variations of echoes and reflections of her unique role, it's interesting to log how she reacts. How the circumstances are different; how they are similar. How Buffy resists or accepts or ultimately grows.

2025-02-07 20:23:45 +0000 UTCI almost died when you said the demon was going to disappear out the back of the box π That actually would have been an amazing mid-fight gag, and now I'm sad it didn't happen. That's amazing. I've seen this episode take some guff from fans, but I honestly think it's brilliant. I was a big fan of the Night of the Living Dummy Goosebump's books, and I love how this episode takes that trope and turns it on its head. It's like what you were saying in the beginning, Buffy always manages to surprise you. It is ANYTHING but formulaic. Whatever other faults it might have, you gotta love it for that. I think it's brilliant how this episode makes you think Sid is a creepy little demon dummy guy, and then you find out he's actually a hero with a likeable personality, and you almost instantly start to love him. You even find out he's a tragic figure, and by the end you're grieving him. No chance you saw any of it coming, but it all works and makes sense. I'm also a big fan of the moment at the end when Buffy mourns for Sid. You can tell she connected with him as a fellow demon slayer, and he had earned her respect. SMG's acting is so damn good, it's heartbreaking.
