Buffy 1x08 Full Length Reaction

I think it's just surprising. I was expecting vampires to kill people, but hyena possessed high school students eating the principal and psychological manipulated su*cide just hit differently. Starting to learn though! Definitely mentally preparing for more.

Thank you! And I will definitely keep that in mind! Tissues have definitely become a necessity in reactions πŸ˜‚

Trial run! I love that description. I couldn't quite find the right way to describe how it felt like a precursor to Age of Ultron, but "trial run" seems like a perfect fit. Definitely fascinating to see this episode from a future perspective. And I really need to stop being surprised by how dark this is πŸ˜… Looking at other teen vampire fare like "The Vampire Diaries," i forgot just how many people they killed πŸ˜‚ I think it just feels darker when it's things like psychological manipulated su*cde, and getting eaten by hyena possessed students. It just feels so much darker than "vampire who's biological imperative is to kill people...kills people." That feels more predictable, so I think that's why I'm constantly surprised by Buffy.

Might be my least favorite episode of all seven seasons, a bit too cringy now. Enjoyed the reaction though, been a while since I watched season 1.

So what's darker: a sadistic, hypersexual, techno-cult leader demon staging a high school boy's suicide, or a principal being eaten alive by a pack of rabid hyena-possessed students? These are the questions that Buffy raises! Yeah, I guess this episode's technological antiquation leaves it more or less a novelty today. Definitely not the strongest the show has to offer, even in the context of season 1 (though I do think from here on out, they're all bangers). Still, there always things to like. I really love Jenny Calendar's introduction, and Giles' eerily accurate fears of an internet dominated future, some of the horrors of which we are currently experiencing. And you gotta love that ending! It was cool to see you make the Avengers: Age of Ultron connection, especially after that Jarvis reference haha. That movie and this episode have more than a few similarities. Hell, some would probably consider this episode a "trial run" for the script Whedon would eventually go on to write for that movie. Fun fact, around the 30:30 mark, when Giles is listening to the radio, the voice on the radio is Joss Whedon himself.

This is my least favorite episode of the season. That said it's still got some great moments in it, Giles conversation with Mrs Calendar at the end being my favorite because of my life long love of books.

I am really enjoying your reactions to my favourite tv show. I am really looking forward to watching your next 136 reactions of it. By the way, keep a box of paper tissues nearby, some episodes still make me cry even after a lot of viewings.

If you think the show is dark now, oh boy.
