Buffy 1x07 Full Length Reaction

Angel's backstory!!! I watched this on Hulu, if that affects syncing at all.
*Please note, this is the full length version, and due to copyright restrictions, requires you to sync your own copy of the episode.
I have one other couple that I follow as reactors on Patreon, and they don't seem to have the same issue, Just an FYI.

I genuinely don't know how I ever avoided that spoiler, but I genuinely didn't know π

I think Patreon made a change, because I've noticed that, too. I'm genuinely not sure why it does that, because I haven't changed anything about the process π€·πΌββοΈ

Buffy is an old show so sometime a reactor will already know from pop culture that Angel is a vampire without ever having watched the show. I love it when it's a surprise.

Are you posting videos differently recently? I used to be able to watch them from the Patreon site, but now it opens a new tab to take me to youtube. Not a big deal, just mildly annoying.

It is interesting going back and doing the watch-thruster as a longtime Buffy fan, and noticing the writing. Itβs such a contrast compared to how Buffy and Angel are written seasons later, and itβs not just a βSheβs no longer a high school kidβ sort of maturing, but itβs also the years of backstory and character development.
Angel in particular feels like watching Season 1 Homer Simpson compared toβ¦all the later years of that show. The vocal patterns, the dialogue patterns, the characterization. I mean, Angel will never be portrayed as a genius (spoilers?), but he is given a bit more quick-wittedness in the future which is more fun, especially when he gets his spin-off.
And I totally agree, the lighting this entire episode is spectacular, especially for old TV quality shadow and light. They did it very well this time.

I would recommend the watch order provided here: http://slayalive.com/showthread.php/3924-The-Buffy-Angel-watching-guide

I actually just looked up the order to watch them alongside each other a few days ago π I'm going to wait until I get a little closer to actually schedule it out, but I definitely want to do them together. It's really helpful to know that Angel broadcasted after Buffy, so I'll plan to watch them that way! Thank you!

It occured to me as the video was exporting, so I didn't get to include it π
but I hadn't thought about the subtext of their conversation. Thank you for pointing that out!

I watched Buffy as it aired and then the others you mentioned. That made it seem as though the other shows stole so many ideas from Buffy. Watch for episodes written and directed by Joss and you will definitely notice a difference in quality and tone.
Sarah and David have tremendous chemistry but they started a game of trying to sabotage each other. Before a kissing scene they would both eat the most disgusting things they could think of to gross each other out lol.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer inspired college courses in many universities focused on its impact on pop culture and it's philosophy. There was even a 3 day symposium at the University of Arkansas where 90 papers on Buffy were presented. Not many shows can claim anything similar.

Jacqui, I know it's a ways off, but now that you know Angel's secret, you may want to consider how or if you want to add the spin-off (Angel) into the mix. The two shows ran along side each other starting with Buffy Season 4. The were both broadcast on the WB, Buffy first, then Angel immediately after, so the shows were fairly tightly coupled for Buffy S4 and S5 / Angel S1 and S2. With Season 6, Buffy moved to the UPN, while Angel remained on the WB, so the shows diverged somewhat from then on.
There are watch order guides, if you want, or you can just do broadcast order. Option 3, of course, is to just do whatever you want.
Enjoy!

Haven't finished watching the wrap-up yet, so maybe y'all get there but just in case, it was Buffy's cross necklace that burned Angel because he's a vampire. Buffy's "Are you ok?" Angel's "It hurts." Subtext, metaphors, it hurts that they love each other but are so different, Slayer, vampire, ha ha get it? You get it.

Standard disclaimer, strictly my personal opinion, it's all subjective, blah bitty blah, the first Tier 1 episode of the series.
