Firefly Test Clip

Hey guys! I've gotten a few comments about editing feeling choppy, and that the clips popping up and down can be distracting. I've been trying to find a solution. Just "pausing" them takes so much more work than a lot of people realize, and can still cause problems with copyright, which defeats the purpose. I'm editing episode 5 right now, and tried a test clip using an overlay. I just wanted to see what you guys think--if it's better or worse, or if it doesn't make much difference to you. I'd appreciate any feedback! Thank you ❤️

If I'm watching a reaction video, I've already seen what's being reacted to. All I need is to know what part you are reacting to and your reaction. However you go about doing that is a matter of complete indifference to me. This seems fine.

It does sound like a fan or white noise. It was particularly loud in the Episode 12 Watch-Along, louder than in other videos.

I think this clip looks great…I didn’t have any problems with the previous YouTube clips, but the overlay is very subtle and effective.

Kevin C

I was just fine with the prior editing style, but I think this also worked well.

I didn't see the previous editing as much of an issue. In fact, from what I've seen, that's the most common method on Youtube. That being said, I do agree with a previous commenter that the overlay is less jarring than the alternative. Plus the overlay still allows you to see the general gist of the scene. I remember seeing a reactor cut away from that one scene where Aragorn kicks the helmet and breaks his toe, ugh, broke my heart. At the end of the day, do what works best for you. There will always be people to complain and critique. You're doing great!

Slick447

Strange. I have never noticed any choppiness.

Chris LaLonde

I think both are fine, I honestly don't think I would care either way. I've had no issue with the way you've been doing it. I would say do it whichever way will be easier for you in the long term. Editing is a nightmare, and you'll never make everyone on Youtube happy anyway. It's an impossible task to cater to everybody.

Dude Longcouch

This is fine, but I had no issues with what you’ve been doing.

Bob Bittner

Whichever is easier

Kevin Nicolellis

had no problem with what you have been presenting up to now.

Bloo

There's an awkward cut at 0:21 that feels "glitchy". Other than that it works pretty well.

Dave Williams

It sounds to me like white noise, or like the ambient sound when the volume is increased on an old recording to hear something subtle (the only movie reference I can think of now is one on your wishlist, unfortunately). Perhaps compare say your full Firefly episode 12 to episode 4 reactions, in between when you are speaking. That being said, it may be a one-off thing if you had recorded these reactions around the same time in the past, and there may no longer be a difference. If you want to try recording something audio-only now, it may help to see if there is still a difference. I also agree with Rupert Purcat, in watching your reaction along with the movie/show I don't notice it and it doesn't affect me.

Inhonor Oftrip

I saw a small glitch, but could be on my end

Jon Shanks

Looked good didn't see any issues.

Davis

I usually open my copy in a window over the copy you are playing so it doesn't affect me. I have not noticed the fan noise (could be computer) so I guess I have a more low-fi set up. Still, I enjoy your reactions and enjoy how much more of the story you pick up from the filming choices made. Cheers

Rupert Purcat

No need for examples. I believe you. Just annoyed at myself that I didn't know until now. Will figure it out. Thank you!

Like I said there is some editing software that supposedly can reduce it. I’ll give some better examples in a bit.

I'll try moving my mic closer to me, but I actually usually film late at night, with the windows closed, and the curtains pulled to try to dampen sound. I ran the fan once a few months ago, because I was absolutely melting, and apologized for it in the video. I hear street noise in a lot of other reaction videos, so other than moving the mic, I'm not sure what else I can do 🤔 I'll try though.

Movie Night

To me it sounds like you have a fan on, or a window open. I assumed it was because of the heat. Since these are the episodes you filmed back in February , it might not be noticeable, but I can really tell in the newer reactions, like episodes 11+ and Logan.

Russell Roberts

Using the overlay looks good to me. It is a bit easier on the eyes compared to the cuts before.

Kevin K

Is it humming, street noise, feedback? Because I can't hear anything when I'm editing, and my mic is great quality.

Movie Night

Wasn't aware of background noise. I always run audio analysis, so I guess that's something to look into.

Movie Night

I haven’t seen the clips be choppy, the bigger issue (at least for me), is the background noise. Some editing software might be needed.
