OMG so cool that Fae is sponsoring this. For some reason I thought you'd already seen it, but I'll be voting this into rotation if it's suggested. This show does a great job of explaining how the monarchy and government works, so I won't answer all the questions you had, time will do that for you. But I will share these little tidbits which addresses a common misconception that many American's typically have about the set up. The UK is very much a democracy, just like the US is. The Monarch is mostly a figurehead and doesn't really have any official sway over policy. That's why in this episode, the King sharing he was glad Churchill won the election was considered wrong. The monarch is supposed to be politically impartial. Also, in the UK we don't vote for a specific Prime Minister, we instead just vote for our local representative in Parliament. That local politician is affiliated to a political party. The Party who gets the most votes (seats) becomes the winning party, and the leader of that party becomes Prime Minister. Since Parliament "serves" the monarch, its the duty of the Monarch to "invite" the winning leader to form a government in the name of the monarch. In reality, all hell would break loose if the Monarch refused to do this. It's just a tradition that's left over from the day before democracy when the Monarch chose the Prime Minister. So happy to see this show sponsored and looking forward to future reactions. Oh, and yes, the who's who of British acting will be appearing over the course of this show. Actually, you didn't pick up on it, but the actress who plays Princess Margaret (Elizabeth's sister) is the new Sue Storm/Invisible Woman in the Fantastic Four.
