I would say those are all reasons to travel broadly for pleasure, but the reality of expatriating is oftentimes less sexy. My friend graduated college and moved to Germany. Very tough to professionally acclimate yourself to a new language. However smart you think you are, it’s like you knock 20 IQ points off your brain when you try to express yourself in a non-native language. Five years in, he’s doing well now and finds moving back to the US a hard prospect to fathom. But moving to another country is an exceedingly difficult personal and professional experience. Shouldn’t be under estimated.

2022-07-12 12:37:34 +0000 UTCIdk Matt, all the reasons you cite for not leaving the US - have to learn a new langage, eat different food, be confronted with different culture - could just as easily be reasons for doing so. If you get homesick there’s always a McDonald’s somewhere 🤗
